Are Varmits scared of lasers?
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:08:54 AM »
I am mounting a laser and flashlight on my scope. My question is are varmits scared when you point the laser at them? Do you have to wait until the target is turned around or not looking before you turn it on? If types are sensitive to lasers and which don't care?

Thanks for any tips.

They are when they see mine.   If you can keep it out of thier eyes its better.   Its just like me shinin mine in your eyes.. I try to turn it on behind them and bring it up from the rear..  head shots are difficult for me using it  so when I use mine i bread basket them..

I've used my laser/light combo a couple of times while night hunting at the duck farm and I've noticed that critters are aware of the laser. I nailed a couple of rabbits using the laser and while I could tell they noticed the dot they didn't panic and take off...    What was really amazing was how the ducks reacted to the laser,,,,,, they basically went crazy.  I never saw anything like it before.  I shined the laser into one of the duck pens and as I moved it around all of a sudden every duck in the vicinity  went nuts !!  They panicked like I've never seen em panic and literally started a duck stampede.  It was really funny !!  I'm careful now not to use the laser around the ducks anymore as I don't want to bother them.  Out of curiosity I  aimed the laser at a small flock of canada geese and they reacted the same as the ducks,,,, they went nuts  !!   Perhaps different critters react differently to lasers,,,, all I know is that waterfowl certainly don't like em  :)

I also use lasers in all my night hunt's and as far as Raccoons, possum and other night critter's none of them seemed alarmed by the beam on their noggin  and I've locked it onto them when their facing me. Jeff has something there with our feathered buddies, I also had the same reaction to birds and laser. Pigeons in a dark barns, they seemed to get very alarmed by that red beam following them around. I'm sorry.  I'm laughing alot.

I'm just imagining Jeff near a duck pen chuckling whilst lasering a gaggle of ducks into a frenzy.
