GRT-III trigger
« on: November 07, 2006, 02:17:52 PM »
Hello

Just wanted to say thanks to the forum that lead me to Charlie's web site. I recently bought a Gamo 220 Hunter(  my first pellet gun ) I set up a target and shot about 50 pellets and said to myself, this trigger sucks!!I fired up the puter and Googled Gamo triggers or something of that nature. I ended up here and found info on the GRT-III trigger.
I checked out Charlie's web site and was amazed at all the info he had for the public to view. Great place for a noob to read up on pellet guns.  After reading up on his trigger I said to myself, for $31 I have to give it a shot.
I installed it last night in about 15 min and now it feels more like a rifle than a toy. It's got a great feel now, not having to pull till it releases. Just a light touch and it fires. I'm sure when I get time this weekend I will get it sighted in easier than trying to do it with the stock trigger.

   Thanks,   Anthony

And Thank You Charlie Da Tuna!!

Hey, Anthony, welcome aboard!  And welcome to the Charlie Da Tuna fan club!  My Gamo happens to be a CFX, but it share the same power plant and crappy trigger as your 220.  Bob's triggers make a world of difference, they help make it possible to achieve some of the accuracy these rifles are capable of.  You've also found a great place to find out more about Gamo's in particular, and air rifle in general.  So if you have any questions, ask them here, you'll almost certainly get some good answers.  One thing to watch out for.  If you see any posts by some guy named Gene, be sure to ignore it.  He just likes to hang out and harass people :-).  Good luck and have fun.

I know EXACTLY what you're saying Anthony.  I purchased 2 of the GRT III's a few months ago and loved them.  Much better feel to the trigger now, not only that but it looks a lot better as well.  In fact I liked them so much, I just ordered two more the other day.  Definitely makes for a better shooting air gun.

I fired about 50 pellets through my Gamo Shadow before installing the GRT-III
trigger. I wanted to make sure I had a fresh memory of how the gun fired
before I installed it. After I installation, all I can say is
that the difference is amazing. Not only has the feel of the pull improved,
but the shot groupings have also vastly improved. The one thing I had to
caution myself on was that temptation to make adjustments to the second
stage. As originally setup, there is a very subtle feel in the transition
between the first and second stages and I was tempted to make adjustments to
increase difference in feel between the stages. However, I think I’ll
benefit the most if I leave the setting as is and adjust "MY" technique to
fit the trigger as originally set. Anyway, I’m going to do a lot more
shooting before I fiddle with any of the adjustments. Thanks to "Da Tuna" for making such
a great product!

RE: GRT-III trigger - This trigger is better than stock...

...but remember, the stock trigger DOES tend to improve significantly with some wearing in. Sometimes in as little as a few hundred shots.

Wifey's Shadow has the old GTX in it, and compared to the new Shadow I bought recently (for conversion to .22) it is a zillion times better. But compared to my 3 year old Shadow, well... it's better, but the difference isn't as great.

The similar trigger in my B19 had a really nice, light touch to it - it was far and away the best Theoben-type trigger on any of my rifles.

Then, one day, it wouldn't cock.

Turns out that the factory slop in the trigger, combined with wear, meant that the sear was not sitting directly over the piece that's supposed to block it. Rather, it was off to the side - close to the edge - and as soon as the trigger started to move the blocking piece during the "second stage", it just kinda slipped off and the gun would fire. Eventually the edges rounded off, and the sear wouldn't stay blocked in the "up" position (hence the refusal to cock)

I fixed it by stick-welding some material to that little blocking piece and grinding it down, so that it was a little thicker in one area. This keeps it centered and functional.
