13XX Pump Arm Pin
« on: November 25, 2008, 10:05:18 AM »
The roll pin in my gun was pretty sloopy from being in & out so many times. Playing around with different pistons. Anyway I was getting around 538fps with 15 pumps (22 cal.). After replacing the pin with a tight solid one vel. went to 556fps with 15 pumps.  This is with a stock barrel, Cros steel breech, stainless bolt with extended probe, opened trans port, alum end cap. 3 in muzzle brake.  It is plain to see the power in these guns is in the pump. I wasnt going to turn this into a rifle, but  Im gona put a 24 in barrel on it just to see what it will do. It pumps a whole lot nicer than my Sheridan.

The 24" barrel will add some speed and it will make it quieter . I have one that for the moment sports a 10" Lothar Walther barrel . It shoots in the 510-515fps range with 8.4g. JSB pellets with 10 pumps. kirby

The brake on it has an expansion chamber in the end which realy cuts the noise, but I am working on another one with a sight. I had a scope on it, but it was too heavy. The longer barrel is not going to stay on I just want to see what it will do. The transfer port is leaking a little too. I use a stainless tube pressed right into the valve & sealed with a rubber washer against the barrel. Works good , but has become loose from pulling it in & out.  My vel. are with 14.3 CPHPs.  The rabbit aroud here hate this gun 20yd shots are a done deal. They show up real good now there is a little snow.

Nice, They're a simple gun that don't need an external air source . When I get tired of pumping I use one of my 2300's CO2 pistols.

I did a little experiment with..........(Pic)

That's interesting.  I was actually experimenting w pumping and velocity with my 1322 the other day and found that the faster I pumped, the higher my velocity was.  This could be due to the steadiness of a fast pump inhibiting  loss of air between pumps vs. the slightly shakiness of a slow pump???  Has your pumping motion gotten faster/steadier since putting in the new pin?  You will see a noticeable difference between your current barrel and the 24".  I did a review on my mac1 power and accuracy prepped 1322 in the review section http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11828&mid=92239#M92239   Here is a pic  of mine along with my tomcat (Crooked Barn 2240)  They had a furry friend with them originally,  but I had to edit him out to be ok here.  Check out the hunting forum for more pics of them with their furry friends lol.

Very nice. What is your opinion of your Tomcat as compared to a factory Crosman Co2 pistol? Does the bolt/breech combo from Crooked Barn , operate any smoother than the factory steel breech ? I wish someone would make a .177 specific breech for these pistols , IMO that's where the" hard to load" with the factory breeches comes from . It being a .22 cal designed breech used for both calibers. What kind of performance and shot count are you getting. I'm thinking of getting someone to build me a PCP pistol to shoot pistol F/T with. I may have to go with a .22 cal . , but I would like to stay with a .177 . kirby

Kirby, The upgrade the Tomcat offers over stock is pretty substantial.  The trigger work he does is wonderful, and makes a decent, but heavy trigger, light and even more consistent.  The breech and bolt are made by CB and don't take long to break in, and are a little smoother than the crossman breach.  The 14" barrel adds a little velocity along with the work he does with the internals.  I'm getting approximately 32 useable shots averaging 536 fps with 14.3 cphps.  High of 576, low of 497, with shot 5 through 16 being a very consistent 543-551.  I know mountain air does a very nice PCP pistol,  I'm thinking of adding one to my list as well.

Messed around with some different ammo for hunting tody Crow mags are very accurate. Thought I would give it a few more pumpswith the CPs (14.3 gr.) 20 pumps puts out 610-616 fps from a stock barrel & valve. I did notice awhile ago that the way you pump does make a difference. I also notice that it will heat up if I shoot seveal shots in a row, and vel. will drop off. My first flat top piston was just the stock piston cup filled with hot glue & turned flat. Turned out the piston gets hot enought to melt the glue.
