I've noticed a lot of Crosman Quest talk
« on: January 09, 2009, 12:16:31 PM »
So I could not resist $109 at WalMart. It really is quite the gun for the money. Someone said it's a Gamo 220 clone. I agree with that, it appears to be a exact clone. I had a question out there awhile back about who made them for Crosman. MM was nice enough to take the time to answer and with his info I finally ended up on the BAM (as in Xisco B-26) web site and sure enough the Crosman is a dead ringer for the BAM B-19. Good wood, funny color, bluing even looks good after a RemOil wipe down. No wonder they turn out to be nice guns for the money with a little work. Taking the word of several new owners who have posted about the oily condition and explosive nature of the Quest just out of the box. I didn't fire mine. I just put it in the compressor and went to work. In about four hours I put the first pellet down range (spelled across the room). Solid thump no twang just a little recoil. It's a little loud, but out side of that I really can't complain. Great buy for the money.

I this ole Bob has worked on a few of the B-19/Quests over the years, if you want any tips or tricks he would really be the one to talk to.....I have an older B-19 in .22 and a 1000 Quest, only difference is the barrel on the Quest is longer...

Glad to hear it Walt! Now go over to Gene's or CDT's site spend the 32 dollars or what ever it is now and pick up one of the drop in triggers. You will find yourself picking up that gun more and more. I think I have a total of 5 or 6 Crosman guns all springers one is tuned with a CDT trigger and it shoots great. Good luck on that 100 dollar shooter.

I did put the gold trigger in all ready, I had one on hand. That was my last extra. I think I will need to order another two to have on hand. I did have a question for the experts. I was wondering if there is a way to increase the pressure for the barrel lock up? I have noticed it takes very little to jar the barrel out of lock up after the gun has been cocked.

The Quest and it's variants are decent right out of the box,....but a GRT-III trigger is the the best thing to put into one of these rifles. A tune will only make them 'oh so much better'!!!! I've really enjoyed my CDT tt'd Sierra-Pro alot!!! The lock Barrel lock isn't too lite on mine, but like CAP said, the Diana's can be tough to break open!!! I have noticed that after cocking the gun (the SP), the barrel will have a bit of side to side play, but after lock-up in the firing position, it's as solid as a rock, and remains pretty dang accurate on the spoons and paper!!! tjk

These airguns...the Crosman Quest, Storm XT, Sierra Pro, Remington Genesis, Phantom plus a few others are all the same gun.  It's the luck of the draw.  I've only got the Storm XT and Sierra Pro.....the Storm is about $10.00 less than the Sierra Pro, but the SP package came with a better stock and alot better scope.  But the Storm outshoots the SP by a mile....possible one holers out of 5 shots at a 10 meter distance.  Out of the box my SP was giving me almost a "shotgun" pattern out of ten shots with any type of pellets (Tested 12 types/brands).  Just recently after 3000 shots....she have tamed/settled down....I could get 12mm center to center groups with her using Crosman hunting (dome) pellets.  I started a thread at the main "Airgun Gate" tiltled "After 3040 shots".  Tjk have got a great Sierra Pro....so as I say, "It's the luck of the draw".  I've read another poster's grief with the Quest 1000.....first gun wouldn't break open, 2nd gun would shoot for 8 or 10 shots then something happened, 3rd gun if I remember correctly, the barrel started moving side to side slightly....exchanged it again for a Gamo at the end.  But then, there are Quest owners who swear by their airguns......  In my final analysis.....for $100.00 to $120.00 if you happen to get a good one.....it's really worth it.  Just my $0.02    Btw, my airguns are not tuned.

Great point Stan!!! For a lower priced weapon, such as the Crosmans, Gamos, Chinese brands, etc., it does have alot to do with the "luck of the draw". Even though I know my SP isn't the most accurate rifle in the world,...one thing I did have to change was the way I held and shot it,...as well as the rest of my springers. When I first started shooting AR's, I held them like a powder burner,....and it just don't work that way. In retrospect, I would imagine that these economy guns were and still are alot more accurate that I am!!!!!! LOL's But as I have progressed though my journey into air powered rifles, I've basically had to 're-teach' myself how to shoot. And the end results are alot better than before!!! I'm sure there are 'lemons' out there, but if one doesn't really know how to shoot an AG, then who's to know if they are in fact "lemons"?!?!?!? LOL's What a cool sport we all share. Best Wishes, tjk
PS. Think I'll start a post on how I shoot and hold rifles, and maybe some others will add to it their experiences and methods!!!! Gotta get back to work for now!!!!
