GAMO BLACK SHADOW SUPREME QUESTION

Hello , I have this gun and it feels tight everywhere except when it is cocked, then the barrel can swing freely when it is at  90 degrees. Can this be fixed by tightening the main pivot screws?if so, these are tight , so are they lock tighted? Gentlemen please school me on this. thanks,  Mark

LOL Mark..... Well the Gamo Shadow breech to barrel screw is a bear. It is ok if it feels loose to swing but what is important is if there is any play between the barrel breech block and the action forks. You can tell by holding the action with stock with your weight on it and grab the barrel and try and move it back and forth. If it is loose or you see play then you may try and tighten the screw.

WARNING! 90% of the time you will need an impact screwdriver. Make sure the tip is a good fit in the slot.

I have adjusted, removed and lubed many of these Gamo barrels and for the most part it is a bear to do. Especially if you have to remove it all together.

Yes Gamo uses some bad ass loctite on the screw. Do not attempt to heat it either.

Poor J worked his butt off tryin to get the screws loose on my Big Cat,,,,, thought we would never get that breach screw loose?? :0  (Destroyed one of his drivers!!)  :o   I always try to adjust my break brls. to the point that they will just barely not "fall" from the cocked position (by gravity). Good luck Mark!! And,,, OH YEAH,,,,, Gene shure does do some nice work!! The Panther (Diana 34/177) he & Mr Bob tuned & gave me,,,, was one SAWEEET shooter!! 8) I shot several thousand rounds thru that gun,,,, made some of my best ever posts at Hunting Gate with it!! I recently had the honor of spending a week visiting Gene,,, I gotta tell Ya,, he puts his ALL into the tunes he does for his customers!! It is very obvious after spending MANY hours with him in his shop,,,, he sure LOVES his work!! :D  I dont have my Panther anymore,,,,,,, I hid it behind Genes couch & left it for an Xmas present for him!! :p  Besides,,,,, I plum wore that poor gun out!! :o  Tim.

I'm curious as to why it is important that the barrel be held up by tension, alone, after the gun is cocked?  To be truthful, I've never thought about it.  My regimine is to cock, then control the barrel (good hold) through loading and return to battery.  At that point it is locked up.  I have a pre-war Haenel III with the sliding lock at the breech which, when pushed, allows the barrel to fall a bit open for loading.  Same with my Haenel I.  If it were tightened to point that a cocked barrel doesn't swing, then I would have to snap break it.  The play doesn't seem to affect accuracy in either gun.
