BKL 260 model for my CFX
« on: September 05, 2006, 11:41:51 AM »
Recently I sent out my CFX to CDT for a turbo tune and while my plinker was out, I was shopping for a scope for my cfx.I found the scope I wanted at pyramyd air so I purchase everything I could there. After reading these forums, I noticed LongIslandHunter, Gene, and afew others using these BKL mounts and love them. Will model 260 fit with my Leapers 3-12X44 30mm SWAT Mini Size A.O. Range Estimating Mil-Dot Scope? Pyramyd air doesnt carry 260s so I have to purchase it from straight shooters(looks at Gene) but before I buy these mounts, will they fit.

Thanks,
Khiem Nguyen

As long as the scope is 1" in diameter. The 200 series BKL scope mounts are all 1" rings with 3/8" and 11mil scope rails.  I have never used the model 260 scope mount by BKL but I am sure it is of high quality. I might add that a cantelever mount would have been sufficient...:)

The 300 series BKL mounts work with 30 mil scopes. The 300 series are made to fit with 3/8" and 11mil scope rails.

Check out the BKL Web Site for details:  http://bkltech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BKL&Category_Code=SMP

Hope that answers your question..

In that case, I think I need to purchase the 360 model since my scope is 30mm(Leapers 3-12X44 30mm SWAT Mini Size A.O. Range Estimating Mil-Dot Scope).

Thanks that really helps,
Khiem

Khiem,

You need to make sure the scope length will fit your choice of mount. You need to be able to move the scope for proper eye - relief. The BKL one piece, 6 screw mount is an excellent mount. Ask questions before you buy because you can't return scopes or mounts that have been mounted. Best of luck...

I spoke to Chris at  BKL this afternoon and they had excellent customer service. I ended up ordering a custom BKL model 360 mounts. In the past I had this problem with my scope slipping in my rings as I marked it with a lead pencil when  I was shooting. Hopefully with CDT's tune and these mounts, I wont have this problem anymore. I am new to airguns but I have experience mounts creeping along the rail backwards and scopes slipping from the rings after 30 or so shots. Creeping is one thing but has anyone every experienced their scope slipping from the rings???:o Well when these mounts get finished in like 2-3 weeks, I'll let you know how it works out for me. As for the model 360, standard it has 6 screws on the bottom of the one piece rail and 4 screws on top, two screws on each ring. The 360 custom is exactly the same except it has 4 screws for each ring instead of 2. These custom mounts cost me $10 bucks more. The way I justify the extra 10 bucks is if it works, then it will be well worth it to me for only 10 bucks to get my scope to zero once and only once  so I dont ever have to touch it again.

Khiem.

Applying a thin film of rubber cement and letting it dry for a day, to make a friction enhancer rather than a glue, stopped my scopetube creep, along with some careful "cross-tightening" of the screws.

Judging the correct torque has to be carefully considered, as the old "torque it 'till it breaks and back off a quarter turn" doesn't work as well on scope. :) :) :)

Hey Khiem

Well those BKL mounts are good ones. I would not be surprised if the cost does not go up within a year. I originally bought the BKL Cantalever mount for my Samatra. When I got the mount I could not believe how strong and light it was. I tend to like the lighter air rifles and putting less weight on top of them is all the better. I have even pulled off all of my big glass scopes and am replacing them with 32 and 40 mil scopes in order to lighten the load even more..:) Besides anything larger than a 40 mil scope is just to heavy.

Good luck

-=ed,
As for applying the rubber cement, would it be possible to post pictures of how much to apply and where to apply Please?

Thanks,
Khiem.

Have you looked at the Nikon Buckmaster scopes?

40mm and all the goodies except illuminated reticle... and at a pretty good pricefor such a high-quality scope.

Don't know if their Airgun Rated, but they have a lifetime warranty

Just avery thin coat on the inside of the top and bottom ring surfaces.

Take the applicator out of the bottle, and quicklyscrape it clean twice. Bbefore it starts to set on the brush, brush on a thin coat.

By thin I mean no drops, drippingor oozing. You shouldn't be able to see it when it's dry. A few hours in the sunlight will probably dry it completely.

Be careful, as in some brands, the fumes are not good for you, and some of them will burn.

The BKL scope mounts  will hold anything tight and secure. I would suggest if you find that when you get your mount and mount the scope, try it without the rubber cement first. I think you will be pleasently surprised how well it will hold..

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and just got a new cfx.  I have a simmons pro air 4x12x40 scope coming soon and need to get a mount.  I was looking at the accushot 1 pc., but have seen a lot of good things said about the bkl 260.  after going to their site I was wondering if one of their drooper models would be better to compensate for pellet trajectory...to help keep more adjustment range for the scope.  Any thoughts on this...and do the cfx models have any barrel droop (even though their fixed) anyways?
Thanks, I like this site...everyone here seems very friendly,
                        Scott

Hey, Khiem, good choice in mounts.  One other thing that no one said yet, make sure everything is squeaky clean.  I use brake cleaner to make sure there's no grease on anything.  Denatured alcohol works well also, but with the brake cleaner I can really blast out the rings/mount.  You can either let it air dry or give it a blast of compressed air if available.

Scott, just noticed your PM.  Get the BKL 260 with .007" compensation.  I just put mine on my CFX, at 10 yards it was dead on for elevation and 1/4" right.  For a 30 yard zero, that's about 1" high, well within the range of the "sweet spot" for scope adjustment.  To answer your question, I'm just going to hang on to everything for now.  Never can tell when I'll just HAVE to have another rifle :-) !  And for anyone interested, the barrel droop on the CFX is pretty close to the same as my Diana 350.  I can just about swap scopes without haveing to re-zero.  So does a fixed barrel CFX have droop?  You decide :-)!
