Best .22 PEllet in Discovery?
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:36:36 AM »
What's your best performing pellet in the .22?
There are so many to choose from I'd just as  soon skip the trial and error.
Thanks
Don

Don,,when I was playing around with the Disco,I found the RWS Superdomes fared well!!!!   Of course I am a JSB fan in any gun but the Superdomes were very good at that time!!!!!

The JSB Predators are the most accurate out of my Disco.
However I've only tried 2 other pellets - Copperhead Domed and Gamo Hunters.

I haven't tried Crosman Premiers, JSB exacts or the RWS pellets
If you don't hunt, don't bother with the Predators (too expensive), BUT IF YOU DO THEN YOU HAVE TRY THEM OUT

I hunt that's why I'd rather skip the trial and error process like I did with the .177.
What about the heavier pellets?

I'm not sure about heavier pellets because I haven't tried any.  I find the Preds at 16 grains heavy enough, they give you a nice flat trajectory out to 40 yards.

Since you hunt, definately try the Preds.  They expand and mushroom like crazy and shoot like lazers out of my gun.  Wherever I put the crosshairs, that's where the pellet goes.  I'm sure you won't be dissapointed with the hunting capabilities of the Preds coming out of the Discovery.

the ones i have tried, limited. the crosman 14.3 pointed, and the cabela's 14.3 hp both will shoot well in mine. the rws pointed and domed did ok, but not as good. the beeman kodiaks did well and their fts did as good as the crosman's. i didn't have any success with any of the wad cutter types. that's all i've tried so far. i am sighted in with the cp's and the cab's.  john

Is your Disco. a .22?  If it is, what kind of velocity did you see with the Kodiaks? That's my "go to" pellet. T.I.A. Nevermind, I went back through some of your other posts and seen you have both calibers.

mine realy likes the rws supperdomes or the supper H points the predators are great for hunting but I've never had any small game get away from a supperdome so I've been saving the preds for somthing bigger than a squirrel or rabbit.

got 1 of each!!!   i'v shot only one 10 shot string with my disco using the kodiak's, 21.1 grain pellet over the chrony. have also tested it for accuracy, and it shoots very well. on the velocity part, i pumped the disco to 22-2300 psi, mine seems to hit it's highest velocity in the second and third 10 shot string, so might raise the numbers, but probably not to much. lo vel, 733.3- hi vel, 749- av vel, 741.9- fpe workes out to 25.+. i hope to get set up so i can chronograph and check accuracy at the same time, save on pellets.  john

I don't understand something, If it's hitting its sweet spot after 20 or so shots why are you over filling your rifle?

i seem to get a lot more shots at the 10 yard range i'm shooting before the poi starts to drop.with the chrony sesson, i learned that the velocity starts to drop before the poi does at 10 yards. kind of got in the habit, the first gun would leak down about 200 psi when purging the hose.  john
