Warnings.  Since I want to take it all apart and tinker with it.  I got to thinking and I decided to post this idea I have had.
This may not be an original idea, but here you go:
Get one of those big ZipLoc Freezer Bags; put your 2240 (or other part loser) frame and tube assy  in it and zip it up;
Poke holes with your hex wrench or driver and remove the tube.  I'm prettysure the ball will be "in The Bag" now.  Tape up the holes you made with masking tape, or whatever, then remove your frame and tube.  Leave the Ball and Spring and any other small parts in there in there. I guarantee you won't forget where you stored them.

That's a great suggestion Roy !

The best that I have come up with, is laying the pistol on a clean white rag, cover it with another clean white rag with a small hole in it for the screwdriver to go through, then remove the grip screw. I like your idea, there is no where for those small OMG parts to go, and you can see what your doing !

Thanks for sharing your idea with us all !

Make sure you poke enough holes or the gun won't be able to breathe.

You don't want your 2240 to run out of oxygen and suffocate.
Learn from someone who has been there, done that.

I still miss my old hamster.

Thanks Big Bill, like I said I don't know if the idea is original or not, but it do make sense.  And, of course you're welcome.  It's nice to be appreciated.  Thanks again for the compliment, I didn't think anyone would see it as a big deal.

For us people that get that sinking feeling in their gut and their jaw drops to the collarbone, while working on a 2240 or a toaster, when they hear that little *plink* across the room;  this is something that would save a lot of heart stopping moments.  Which, are followed by way too much anger and cursing.

Also, it would stop many domestic feuds that stem from the wife asking, "What's wrong?" and you answer heatedly "I lost the  %$^&*@# what the @$%&* you think is wrong!!"

I say we get ZipLok to make special bags for us that have plastic gloves molded into them, pistol and rifle sized.

LOL Derick.  That's pretty funny, but you may have a point there.

Or even automobile sized.  I could have used one of those a few times.

What is really bad is when you are working at your red-neck work bench, usually known as the dining room table and that tiny part flies away only to land on the carpet.  My success rate for finding said part is so small it cannot be measured in human terms.  Actually, I need to sit inside a duffle bag with a flashlight to reduce ( not prevent) lost thingamajigs.  And then I would step on it.
