Need advice on a youth/Boy Scout rifle

Greetings all,

I volunteer for the local Boy Scouts of America campground, and am charged with setting up a rifle range for the new camp we have just acquired.  Since its much easier as far as permits and such, to go with an air rifle range than a .22LR range, we're opting to go that route.  Also, the funds are pretty tight, and we're trying to get the program off the ground, in a cost effective manner.  I'd like to get your opinion, on what air rifles I should consider, in setting up this range.

we will want around 6 youth size rifles, and a couple of adult size ones, for the big kids and a couple of spares, so about 10 rifles in all.
I'm fairly competent mechanically, and will be doing the maintenance/upkeep of the rifles.
I'm considering the B1-1, and the B2-2.
I'm thinking the break barrel is the way to go, and these will be strictly open sight rifles, shot at 10 meters.
any advice or wisdom you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

We really dont need all the doo--dats that comes in that package. we have safety glasses donated already, and we're looking at building a backstop, with pellet traps and paper targets (photo copied paper).  I figured a break barrel would be more robust than a pneumatic, no?

can you tell me why you think the daisy is the right choice for the application?

I second sparky's choice. This model also comes without doo dats.  http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=585   The problem with spring break air rifles is they are hold sensitive not like the daisy. The chinese you mention are cheap and most times need to be tuned to shoot right on. Spring break rifles if not respected will cause like getting whack by the barrel if let go before it is fully cocked. Once that happens you break the rifle stock or bend the barrel plus might lose a finger or two. Spring break has two recoils, forward then backwards...same reason a season powder burner shooter will be off shooting spring break rifles. Get with Walmart and see if they can bulk order this and save on shipping plus ease of return if broken. ;o)

As a kid, I learned to shoot on a Diana Model 25, and i guess I have some affinity for break barrels from back then, but what you say makes alot of sense.  I'll keep researching, but I think your advice is sound advice, and we will most likely go with that option.
