My New B3 Looks Different (Pics)
« on: June 12, 2009, 03:21:42 PM »
Hello, everyone, my name is Therman and I'm a new airgun junkie.  I'm an old retiree living in Oklahoma and I happened to stumble upon the GTA about a month ago.  I've joined in some matches in the Target Shooting Gates and really enjoy it.  This week (Tuesday) I was reading thru the threads in the China Gate and became interested in the B3.  After searching and reading threads for a couple of hours I felt like that ol' boy that "had a cravin' flung on him."  I followed one of the links to the ToolsNow website and before you could say, "the most fun you'll ever have for $24.95 plus shipping," I placed an order.  Less than 72 hours later the big brown van pulled up in front and delivered the package.

I was a little excited as I opened the carton and saw it for the first time.  After reading about the B3 here, I was prepared for the botched up finish on the stock and the 'mystery oil' protectant covering everything.  The first thing that really caught my attention was what appears to be a safety in front of the trigger.  All the pictures I found and all the articles I read, nothing was ever mentioned about a safety on this gun.

I plan to get some Goo Off cleaner tomorrow and give it a good going over before I try to shoot it.  If anyone has any ideas about this 'safety thing' please respond.  I'm looking forward to seeing if this project will be a 'shooter'.

The pictures aren't the best, but you can see what I am talking about.

Therman

Hi Therman,,,,

I have 3 B-3's, all bought from ToolsNow and all 3 of mine have the safety.

All 3 of mine were decent shooters right outa the box, but after a home tune they really shined :)

they are great little guns and they respond extremely well to a tune.  Easiest way is to order the QF-2 tune kit from Southsummit.com..... gives you a better spring, piston seal and  breach seals.

I'm already looking forward to your next post on your new Chicom shooter  :)

Keep us up to to date....

Wow, that's what I call a fast response!  Thanks, Jeff, I am glad that I didn't get an 'odd duck'.  I ordered a QF-2 kit at the same time I ordered the gun and it was delivered at the same time.  Two different companies with great service.

I plan to clean and shoot this weekend and, maybe next week, build a spring compressor and start on the tuning.

Thanks again,
Therman

You're gonna enjoy working on it and when you're finished you're gonna have a great little game getter.....

BTW... like I said, mine all shot pretty decent right from the box after I simply cleaned all the chinese mystery oil off them  so just go ahead and shoot em for awhile and have fun.

Also,,,, all 3 of my B-3's absolutely love the cheap GAMO pointed pellets.... (Gamo Magnum and Gamo Master Points),, matter of fact almost all my chinese guns like em which is strange since all my other more powerful rifles hate any kind of pointed pellets.  I'm thinking the lower velocity/power of the chinese guns  is what makes the pointed pellets work in them,,, just a guess on my part.

Anyway, I only mention it because most "sports Authority" stores and "Dicks Sporting Goods" stock the GAMO pellets.  Don't know if either of those chain stores are near you but figured I'd mention it just in case they are and you're looking for some cheap pellets that may work well in your gun.

Does yours have a leather seal or the plastic one , and is the sight welded on or held on with a screw?

Welcome to the GTA family Therman :) , the B3's are a good little project shooter, paper puncher and little critter hunter. As mentioned there's a ton of info on em and members that have one or more including me, love the little CHINA shooter. Any questions feel free to ask and again welcome to GTA, A GREAT PLACE TO BE. :) Ed
