Assembly Diagram for Westlake Air Pistol
« on: June 10, 2009, 07:55:27 AM »
Just picked up a couple of these from compasseco, was looking or a diagram or exploded view or something on one.

Thanks, Evan.

I will try to talk you through a disassembly, to begin remove screw holding trigger guard, front of guard is around a pin in the front, tip forward and lift, it will come out. Remove the four screws on the sides of the grip, remove screw in bottom of the grip, lift action out. Remove little screw then big barrel pivot screw . Slide cocking arm to the front of the slot and tap out pin, it is bigger in the middle so center it in the cut out. Remove screws holding rear sight, put in spring compresser and look at the pin, it's at an angle and one end is bigger, tap out from small end, release pressure and remove rear cap and spring, slide piston to the rear until it hits the release for the trigger, push release out of the way and pull out the piston. That should have it apart.....to increase velocity reduce transfer port to 3mm, I have some tubing that works perfectly for this if you want some, I tried a cut down spring for a B-26 in the pistol, all it did was make it really hard to cock and only gave about 50 fps increase so it's easier to do the insert for the port, get about the same increase...notice how to adjust the rear sight, it just tips depending on how the screws are tightened...

Hey Mike,

I was wondering, how does one keep the sleeve in the transfer port?  Braze?  Solder?  Epoxy?  Press fit?

Thanks,

Mike

It's tight fit to start with and I have been using super glue after a really good cleaning, seems to hold, no movement after lots of shots....you also could tap the transfer port with a 10-32 tap and put a soft set screw in and drill it to 3mm.....

Seems counter intuitive to reduce port size to increase velocity. I will have to get some of that tubing.

Mike Melick - Thanks for the explanation.  I was always wondering how people did that.  I like your idea of threading it in also.

Evan - I took apart one of those pistols last year and I think I photographed every step.  Let me know if you want me to email you the photos (I'll reduce them to a reasonable size first).  Also - there is an exploded view floating around somewhere but it is of the Diana (?) original model of this same gun - I can't remember the model #.  I believe the S-2 break-barrel is an exact copy (at a lower quality).

Evan,

Just found it - look down on this page for a thread started on 6/3/09 titled "BAM Air Pistol"

If your "Westlake" is the same as mine, it is the same gun shown with different package lable, wooden grip and possibly different sights.  The insides are exactly as shown in the link for the Diana Model 3.

Let me know and I can still send the pix.

I think of the flow through the port as it's like water, a flow of one gallon per minute through a 2 inch pipe will ooze out the end while in a 1/2 inch pipe it will squirt quite a ways...all depends on a lot of other factors also but thats kind of the basic idea. seems to work better for the .177 as the .22 needs the air flow to get moving...

Transferport volume compared to stroke volume is big in these pistols. There is more lost volume in piston seal head. Cylinder is so short that it is almost impossible to lengthen stroke. One interesting  thing could be to try shorten transferport.

I found this picture from web and it shows the structure.

Half off (or more) from plug thread and corresponding amount from tube. May need some welding to stay together after that.

Ah!  Interesting idea.  If you cut off half of the male thread length only, you would be shortening the transfer port AND lengthening the piston stroke.

Brazing or even silver solder may be suffient to hold it together after the thread engagement length is shortened.

I think I have a full enough idea of of the assembly I just wanted to have some back up if I couldn't get it back together.  Been working on the stock, the finish is such a muddy brown, seems like it would be better if they sent them in raw wood.  Now if I could figure out how to get magnum power out of it.

There is a Nobel Prize in your future if you do....I just had mine out for a run, popin' cans at 20 yards. They will never be a match gun gun a fun plinker, pellet is slow enough you can see your misses so you know where they go...if it shoots to high take some black electrical tape and build up the front sight....

Mine was shooting too high, after maxing out the rear sight all the way down, I was out of adjustment.
I drilled a small hole on the front sight, and fitted a small socket screw. Now, I have an adjustable front and rear sights.
I am now planning on installing the main seal out of the B3 shooters kit that I just got.

I'm going to do a lube tune on it, and see how it turns out.
