daisy avanti 753 barrel on a 953?
« on: July 01, 2009, 09:16:57 AM »
My 15yr old and I have an old avanti 753 been working on a rebuild, only problem is its just all old and worn its had a well used life, screws threads sloppy / stripped and power is down abit etc ..:(   I will say its still quite accurate but in need of tlc/redo.
Anyway here is the question, does the barrel.. a walther lothar really wear out  that much in a low power airgun like this one,not like its had powder burns and it seems fine? Will likely push a pellet through it with a dowel and see what i get.   If a barrel does not wear that much I am thinking I can  buy a 953  for $70 bucks (and get all new parts), put the walther lothar barrel in it do the pilkington trigger mod, refinish the 753 wood stock add me a possible walnut butt extension like I want or may even consider a digital cammo look, install the high quality diopter sights I will have a different  nice new custom 10m target gun that will always shoot better than me:)
If anyone out there has put a walther barrel from a 753/853 on a 953 or knows if it "wont work" I would appreciate any thoughts on this one. BTW I will be using it  as a single shot loading and may even refinish my old breech cover digital camo to match if i go that route?. Thanks in advance for any help or finish suggestions, Tony.

I've seen a 953 sold that was done this way over on the Yellow.  Might post there.

I had not thought of this before but ...I just noticed a discussion on another post about airgun barrels being different metals /construction in particular the CZ barrels being hammer forged. Does anyone know if the walther lothar barrels are made this way? . Tony
