SK1 is doing pretty good, but what am I doing wrong.
« on: February 06, 2007, 09:16:19 AM »
My back was feeling ok today so I thought I would take the oppertunity shoot alittle. I dont have a rest so I just use the back of a chair, with a pillow over the top. I have my targets set up at 30yards, there was a slight left to right breeze, and this is the best I could do for 15 shots. What am I doing wrong other than I should have stopped at 10, the last 2 were fliers. I am not sure how to post a pic. but I will try. The 1`st 13 shots were a little under  3/8 of an inch. With th 2 fliers it is just under 1"

Sounds to me like you need to git you a measuring stik wth the numbers closer together. Really though...sounds like pretty good shooting to me. I should be able to shoot so good. Geesh... I can't even see a target at 30 yards, even with binoculars... :D

Sounds like you are doing really good shooting those kind of groups Mike. I don't think your doing anything wrong. With the S1K, every once in a while I will get "fliers" too. Might be me (probably) or a bad pellet, or a gust of wind,..or WHATEVER!

The thing is to keep practicing and trying different pellets. Shooting from a chair rest is tough, but using a  pillow is a very smart thing to do.

I bet if you had a steady rest below that pillow, you would be much more accurate and those "fliers" would become less numerous!

What are you doing wrong?  Worrying about those two flyers, I'd say ;-)!  Sounds like really good shooting to me, those last two were probably a combination of things, among them being pellet, gun, and shooter fatigue.  I find that 5 10 shot groups are more fatiguing than 10 5 shot groups.  Over exercising my short attention span, I guess.  Just keep doing what you're doing, I wouldn't change a thing.  Later.

Yuppems, .jpg is a compressed format unlike .bmp, .png or .gif.  Outside of reducing colors you can't smash a bitmapped image down to anything smaller than what it is.  There's a whole art in itself to image smashing, easiest thing to remember is if there are few colors like a logo or whatever then you are most likely best off going with a .gif and the lowest amount of colors possible for a clean image....if you have photos where of course there are millions of shades of different colors then .jpg is the ticket and you compress the image to the best size possible while still keeping detail.  Yay, I still remember a few things:)

Well Mike, it looks dang good to me,, :) don't think you have much to worrya about my friend.. hehe, especially with a Shadow. I wish I could only get a good group like that, right out of the shoot..:) When I lay off for a day or two, I am hittin all over the paper.. lol..

Honestly Mike, that is some nice shooting and I would imagin those two shots were probably bad seat on the two pellets.

Glad you are gettin better..

Thats a darn good group @30yds! Don't beat yourself over the head worrying about the fliers. They could be attributed to anything, including muscle fatigue. A good way to keep your groups consistent is to rest between each 5 shot group.
A meticulous 5 or 10 shot group takes time, and will strain all of your muscles, including the ones that we overlook the most- The Eyes!  Even if they don't feel strained, the fatigue is present.

Very nice shooting!

Danny

Some people dont think a Shadow is that accurate.! I would like to invite them on one of my hunting trips. My Shadow Sport is bone stock, getting a supertune soon. I  hunt in some pretty tough conditions , winters can be  wicked here in South Dakota. My Shadow has perfomed fantastic and as far as accurate, check out my hunt pics. Proofs in da puddin.  :) hunting Ed

The Shadow's a great gun.  When Bob had my CFX last summer, I borrowed my bosses Shadow to stave off withdrawal symptoms :-)!  Bone stock except for one of Bob's triggers, and I got to where I was shooting 3/8" groups at 25 yards regularly.  Changed my mind about the accuracy of break barrels vs. fixed.  That's a big part of the reason that gun #2 was a break barrel.  Nice shooting, Mike!

WOW!  At 30 yards, thats a great group, even with the so called flyers.  If you are doing something "wrong" I wish that I was doing it wrong like that also.  Great shooting, now I know why your name is "bullseye" :)

Bullseye,

I had a lower back fusion in 1990. After I recovered from the surgery, I had 8 pretty good years. It got so bad again I couldn't walk. I was in so much pain I thought about the " bad " thoughts. I have tried everything known to medicine. The doctor's said there was nothing left to do.
They sent me to a pain control specialist in 2000. I see him every month. He has got me on enough medicine that I can function somewhat daily. He tells me that it will never be any better and I will eventually be in a wheelchair. Somedays are so bad I can't do anything but lay in the floor.
Brother, I know how you feel, and I hope it gets better. I will keep you in my prayers. Best of luck...
