Scope Rings for Ruger Air Hawk ????
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:46:43 AM »

I am trying to decide whichscope rings I should buy for my Ruger Air Hawk. The rings that came with it won't stay put and I can't get the gun sighted in.

So, someone suggested that I get the ( one piece) ring set from Beeman, they offer two types. The high mount adjustable#5039 and the non-adjustable #5040 low mount. The adjustable one is to compensate for barrel droop which I have with this rifle. Butthat ring set seems to be very high and could be awkward to shoot.

Do I really need it for shooting at 50 yds. max? Will it fit my rifle? Is this the best route to go? Has anyone used them on there Ruger Air Hawk?

Can anyone help me with this dilemma?

I just got my Ruger Blackhawk  (same as the Air Hawk just a different stock) and I used an Accushot 1 piece medium height mount and it worked like a charm.  My rifle doesn't have barrel droop but if yours does you could shim the rear scope cradle with 1 or 2 pieces of 35mm film negative,, I've done that on a couple of my RWS rifles that have droop and it works great.  You just have to be careful though when you"re tightening down the screws that hold the scope into the cradles as since the rear of the scope is a little higher you could damage the scope tube.  Shimming of course is a personal choice, some guys don't use the technique, but I've never had a problem with it and it's saved me quite a bit of money.  The Beeman 5039 scope goes for around $60 bucks,,, the accushot mount is $16 bucks.......    Anyway, another option for you to consider....

Do you think I would have to shim the rear ring if my shoot range is only 50 yds.??????

I don't want to shim if I don't have to.

I would rather use the shorter height  ring set up .... I think!  I don't think the taller ones look as well.  But,  I am looking for function rather than looks. So if it works I  would try it.

High or low mounts depend on the size of your scopes objective. The rings that come with the Air Hawk are crap. Get rid of them and get a good mount. If you don't want to shim than get an adjustable or the BKL compensated mount.
