Swaged some .45 cal pellets today
« on: September 05, 2009, 09:49:24 AM »
I got bored while doing some case prep for reloading and decided to try out my .45 cal bullet swaging die I bought from Hawk Bullets. I had a 246 gr  round nosed lead .44 bullet, and some .44 cal 240 gr lead semi-wadcutters. So, I ran them through the swaging die and made some slugs for my Sam Yang 909. The SWCs came out as flat tipped round nose .452". They started out as .429" dia.  I'm going to try them and see how it likes them. I may slug the bore and find the actual groove dia. That way I'll know if I need to get a .457" die or have a .454 die made. This all depends on how accurate it is with the .454s. I may even chuck it in the lathe and ream it out, dunno.

Then I went out to my shop and cast a bunch of .45 bullets for it. Truncated cone, Round nosed, Lee REAL, Minie ball, Hollowpoint.

Dunno. Haven't had a chance to shoot them yet. Right now we're about to float away. It's been nothing but rainy weekends for me since I cast/swaged my .45 cal pels.
