Suggestion for New Air Gunners..
« on: October 23, 2009, 04:30:13 AM »
I started messing around with AGs about 10 months ago.  I have several Chinese made and 1 made in Spain.
The one thing that they all have in common is that the fasteners for securing the action to the stock are not worth 2 cents in my opinion.
The fasteners all are only one step from being stripped.  Very shallow threads are the norm that won't hold properly. Never.
This means that you will have difficulty keeping  an action secured  because the screws cannot hold properly.  No matter how much thread locker you use.

I have taken to replaceing these factory fasteners pretty quinkly.  M-5 and M-6 Socket head cap screws ( from hardware store or HD / Lowe's ) of the correct length will hold much better.
Since I have replaced these factory fasteners with better qualilty ones I have had  almost no issues loosening fasteners.  None really.

Another practice that I follow is to fit each fastener with its own brass washer to prevent the fasteners from chewing up the wood or plastic of the stocks.  It seems that most of the Chinese wood stocks are made from Banana wood.  It is very soft.

Thought I would post here at AirGun Gate, rather than shop, because most people come here first.

PS. I don't think banana wood actually exists.

Cliffton,  if it is from China  ( and the TF is )  I would say replace the fasteners with some that the threads are not rounded off.   At least check the threads on the fasteners and replace if needed.
