Welcome, William. Great question; it'll give some of the comedians here something new to think about. I've never heard anyone ask about this in any forum! You'll love this place, great guys(and gals?), lots of advice and links.

BTW, ED. I've got a lot of self-drilling SS screws for that box ,haha.

Maybe you need an oil dampened shock with a one way check valve and a restrictor port inside the coils of the spring....totally doable, and fast.  Sure would create a serious amount of pressure when you maximize the amount of energy transfered from the spring to the pellet with no loss due to bounce.
