WHat I Did Thanksgiving Weekend
« on: November 29, 2009, 11:50:39 PM »
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I took a hunter education course. I was surprised when she said she wanted to take it too. She works in the sporting goods department at our local Wally World and she decided that she would like to know more about the sport so she could better help her customers. Anyway, she passed the test with flying colors, only missing one question and boy was she ever tickled. She may never go hunting, but at least she knows how to be safe with guns and in the woods. I kidded her about needing to get her one of the pink .22 rimfire rifles I had seen at gun shows. She said she'd like to try shooting, but didn't know when she could go to the range (she gets some strange hours at work). So naturally I thought of an airgun that she could shoot in the yard when she had the chance.

Well Saturday was our 22nd wedding anniversary. No time to order anything pink, and not wanting to put too much into it in case she really didn't want a gun. I wondered what to do. So I picked up a Crosman 760 (got a soft spot in my heart, or maybe my head, for the 760 - my late father-in-law had turned me on to airguns with his old metal 760). I had a an old 66 powermaster butt stock (Monte Carlo style with longer length of pull than the 760 stock) and put it on the gun, plus a Simmons 4X scope I had bought and never used (the sights aren't much good on the new 760's). I shot it a few times to see if it would work and found it to be fairly accurate for a smoothbore (4 shots in less than an inch at 12 yards offhand with Crosman points) and figured she could have fun with that. So Friday I tore it down and sprayed the forearm and butt stock with some Krylon Fusion tan for a primer and then several coats of a Krylon baby pink spray paint. Her favorite color is pink. Saturday I put it back together while she was at work and I  got her a dozen roses as a backup in case the pellet gun didn't go over!

She was tickled with the roses, but she really lit up when she saw the pink airgun! We had a good supper out too. It was a good anniversary. Then Sunday afternoon I decided to fish out my old B3-F underlever (I hadn't shot it in quite some time), put a scope on it and was having fun. After half an hour or so my wife comes running out of the house with her new gun asking if she can play too! I put my gun down and showed her how to use the Crosman. Needed to get the big trash can for her to use for a rest, but she was hitting 3-1/2" steel plates at 15 yards every shot and having a blast! I was getting lots of kisses too! :)
We shot until it was almost too dark to see. I think she likes her new airgun.

Excellent story and results Andy. Good job!!!!
Not only did you get a new shooting partner, you opened the door to more additions to your AG collection. Now that you have a new found supporter close by.
Looking forward to hearing more family shooting stories. Now, you need to start planning on how to top this with next years gift.
:)
Happy Shooting!!!!

You da man Andy!  Way to go.  I wish I could get the "one who must be obeyed" fired up on airguns like you did.  Happy Anniversary.
