Pocket Digital Scale
« on: February 26, 2007, 04:36:53 PM »
I was in Harbor Freight Tools today and I saw a pocket sized digital scale for $17.99. It weighs up to 500 grams(doesn't weigh grains so you would have to do a little math). I went on their website and they are offering it for $12.99.

What do you guys think? Deal or no Deal?

I saw an earlier post describing a digital scale. Just ran across this while I was out and about and thought I would mention it. Didn't know if it was usable or a good deal or what.

Agram = 15.5 grains, so a 1 gram scale won't help much for pellets.

For rough measurement of pellets, a .01gram will measure to .1 grain. These are cheap. I got a nice 50g pocket model for about $30.00 a while ago.

A .001 gram scale will measure about .02 grains.I boughtone of these for $95.00. It's overkill, I know, as I don't think my shooting skills would notice .05 grain difference, but I wanted to check things out.

Ed this is why I love this place, I can benefit from others knowledge. If you don't ask questions then you never will know. Thanks  for the info.

Hey, =ed, haven't heard from you in a while.  How's the AW saga going?  Did you ever sort out that power issue, or did it end up just being one of those things you have to live with?  Of course, if all else fails, you could always go back to springers :-)!  Later.

Something to live with.

Springers are hard to shoot now, with the pcp recoil and the trigger situation.

I'm slowly moving my targets out... I'm now at 35-40 yards and staying inside a 1/2" circle, sometimes better.

The temp changes from inside the house or car to the cold outside air is really messing with my poi at these distances.

This summer I'll be at 55 yards, and will have started to learn how to shoot from the sitting position.

Lots of plans... so little time

:-) :-) :-)

Midwayusa sells a Frankford Arsenal digital scale that weighs in grains for considerably cheaper than $95.

I'm sure they might be selling them, but, whatdo they resolve at.1grains, which is marginally useful, or better and affordable .02, or best and unaffordable .01 grains [.001 grams], which you wouldwant to better discriminate between different weights of pellets in the same container.

I have never seen one 1 grain out... they are very seldom more than [+-].5 grain or more out, especially the smaller, lighter ones, so you need a finer scale for meaningful work.

Mine was a great deal for 10 grams [155 grains]capacity at .02 grain resolution.

The full stats on this scale you mentioned would show whether it was useful for things as light as .177 - .22 airgun pellets.

The Frankford Arsenal scale weighs, I think, to the tenth of a grain.

This is fine for my needs but I understand that others might want higher resolution.
