All,

In the market, for a Magnum .22.  i want "Realistic" fps around 800+.  the reason for this is, i aim to take anything from desert coyotes, to big jackrabbits.  here in Nevada, its legal to hunt coyotes with an AG, so i'm looking for a hard hitter, i know i should go .25, but the greater choice in pellets for .22 warrents that.  a lot of people keep telling me get a tuned 350 mag, and i read that a b28A is a copycat 350.  what are realistic FPE and FPS figures for a .22 b28, shooting Predator Polymags?  (by the way, all coyotes will be headshots, and called into 20-40 feet.)

454/Ed
Gamo Big Cat 1200 .177  only shoot 2 pellets, PREDATOR POLYMAGS and CPHPS
kill count 2010.

for coyote bro unless ur a darn good shooter the  b-28 might be ur gig but in .22 cal but the trick is can you shoot em or get close enough to shoot em cause the only way u will take em down with a spring is at the 20 to 25 yrd range others will chime in im sure if i were you for coyotes i would go pcp more range/power /no recoil/ look at the discovery/bam  b-50/marauder/air venturi  halestorm/or my favorite air force condor  others will tell you shot placement are key but i think shot placement with power is paramount when going for a yote with keen eyes, smell, and hearing good luck.

I have gotten 930 fps avg with a B28 in .22 shooting 14.3 crosman pointed, consistenly. I see no reason for the predators to get up to high 800s from that rifle. Or try Kodiaks at mid 700 s...  that is a lot of energy, and with a well placed shot you could easily do a coyote from 30 yards with that rifle (90 feet). Another option coud be the B30... the copy of the RWS 48. That should do 800s with predators as it shoots the 15.6 gamo hunters at 860 avg... Or a good old RWS 34 in .22; i have tested the shops  and it got 760 avg with the 14.3. Before you dismiss it think that the 34 has less recoil which allows higher accuracy consistency.

I would consider a 34 in .22 to be marginal for game that large. Better accuracy aside, even the best hunters miss the mark on occasion. No sense maiming an animal. And some posters have reported yotes on the order of forty pounds. That's not a little mutt.

Wow Lillysdad621! I have a fairly new RWS 350 with around 1200+ rounds fired through it since this summer. The last time I chronied the 350 I was only getting an average of 860.4 fps when using Crosman 14.3 grain pointed hunting pellets. Since this is a magnum air rifle bought for hard hitting hunting power is there anything I could do to get my RWS 350 to gain the additional 70 fps like your B-28? The RWS 350 is accurate, powerful and smooth but hey...70 fps is nothing to sneeze at.

the b28 i shot is a showroom rifle at cobra airguns, not mine. I am going there today so i'll try to re chrony it but i am 99 % sure that it shot mid 900s as i remember discussing it with the gunsmith there, which mentioned dieseling as a culprit, but again, it has been shot hundreds of times and i does not smoke as well as shooting consistenly, so there goes that theory... maybe a freak powerplant??? But i'll take 860 smoothly any day of the week, as it is already a fairly difficult rifle to be accurate with...
and the b26 shoots hobbies at 750s... so that wont do... that one i got and i can vouch for that speed.
The reason i brought the 34 up is the fairly short range the shooting is to be done at. Yes, even themost accomplished marksman will miss sometimes, but generally it happens less if your equipment is easier to manage and performs as expected. A 350 will do a better job but it is harder to shoot due to its stronger recoil. And the B21 is the predecessor to the b30, so i second that option.

I agree with Gabe. At short range (20 to 30 yards), the 34 is a great rifle for hunting. Much easier to shoot than a magnum class rifle. But like every individual rifle made,...it takes alot of practice to master shooting accurately and consistantly. Some more than others. EX Diana 34 (easy) vs. a Diana 350/B-28 (not so easy). Now I wouldn't try to take a racoon with the 34 outside 20 yards,...with the B-28, I wouldn't hesitate busting one at 30 to 40 yards. tjk
OK 40 yards might be pushing the outer limits!!!! LOL's

I love air guns as much as the next guy on here but coyotes are a animal beter suited for powderburners, I've hunted them for years and they are smart critters you'll be lucky if you can get a coyote within 20 yards, it's their instinct to stay away from man every now and again a curious one or young one may come in that close unless your baiting them and that is usually a big no no. I use a Savave model 11 with the accutrigger in .223 with a bushnell banner scope on them, your asking alot out of anything less than a really good PCP with heavy pellets and good shot placement on coyotes for a quick humane kill. just my opinion.
Mike Melick tuned Bam B26,with  Leapers 4x16x40ao scope,Gene turbo tuned TF89 with Barska 3X12X40A0 scope and More powder burners than you can shake a stick at.                  Gun control is hitting what your aiming at

I'm with Shawn on this one.Use enough gun for whatever the task at hand.Just because  something is possible under the best conditions(think ,shoot and kill a hog with a air rifle pellet @ 1/5th the power of a mild .22 rimfire) doesn't make it ethical or smart. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to try to kill a coyote at any legal opportunity with whatever was at hand  including sub 30fpe airguns or thrown rocks. But I'm old school and I don't like but one kind of coyote.By all means go coyote hunting. But take enough gun.

like i said before and was said before in recent post about hunting yotes if you get one and its a big if at 20 yrds ill use a b-28/350 in .22 cal or if you can controll it a walther falcon .25 cal but yotes are smart and wont venture too close unless there very hungry or young, outside a rim/center fire gun me i would go pcp more power/more range/more accurate cant beat that.
