« on: June 28, 2006, 12:33:14 AM »
been thinking about getting something that's not expensive but still fairly accurate. Just don't know what.

I have a digital pocket scale from Old Will Knott Scales in Enid, Oklahoma.  He has an internet store, and he is great to deal with.  I am not entirely satisfied with the pocket scale that I bought because it doesn't read  directly in grains (gn), and it only reads to 0.1 grams.  I usually put 10 or more pellets on the scale, divide the weight reading by the number of pellets, then convert to grains { 1 gram (g) = 15.4323584 grains (gn)}.  Even though I am an engineer, that is too much math for me.  I notice that he has one that reads to 0.01 grams (g) and 0.1 grains (gn).  That scale would have been better for me because you could weigh the pellet in grains directly.  Airgun pellets are weighed in grains (gn), and not grams (g).  Interestingly, Gamo Hunter pellets which are supposed to be 7.8 grains are 7.41 grains--at least the ones I have bought here in Austin.

Hope this helps, Allen White

I have an ohaus reloading scale.  It came from my father and I had it mainly to measure darkroom chemicals.  it is old and its repeatability measuring single pellets sucks.   now I know why my developers I mixed did not come out good.  If I replace it, it will be a digital scale for sure.  John
