Where do i aim??
« on: February 03, 2010, 12:46:38 PM »
I set mi scope at 13 yards...thats as long as my indoor range. I can shoot the nuts off a mouse at this range. My guestion is whats the approx adjustment for 20, 30 or 40 yards if Im zeroed at this range when hunting ?

Best thing to do is when you arrive at your hunting spot....set up targets at different distances and shoot at them.....then write down how much "hold over" or "hold under" on a piece of paper and tape that to your stock.  When the opportunity arises to shoot a critter.....estimate the distance and check the #'s on the piece of paper and squeeze the trigger.  Good luck.

Adjustment will depend on ammo weight and point of impact of the ammo. I have shot about 15 different pellets out of my guns and most will group somewaht close to each other but just as in the big guns heavier bullets drop faster. You just have to shoot the round to see where they impact then adjust accordingly and remember that as you get farther out the the drop will increase.

One thing to consider is a mil dot scope or similar range estamating scope. Also I love the Zero locking feature on my Leapers tactedge scope. I have it set for dead center at 35 ft using gamo match pellets if I shoot the 10.65 gr pellets at the same range I need to add about 4 click of eleveation at that range to get them to hit the same point. I add 4 clicks then when I switch back to the other pellets I zero out the scope and it dead on or I could just use the next dot down below the cross hairs. Hope this helps. Good luck.

There's a piece of software called 'Chairgun' which is on the Forum somewhere *or look it up on the net' which will help you a great deal! Although it is not perfect due to so many variables, it's pretty close! When I started out, I spent a few hours messing about with it. It will help you get to grips with the idea of zeroing in at different ranges and how this affects the value of the mildot! Anyway, Happy Shooting and welcome to the GTA, A Great place to be! :D

Well redroush if you are dead zero'd @ 13 yds, there is a good chance that all of your shots will land high above POA @ 20yds,30 yds and probably be about dead on again by the time you reach 40yds. Lot's of variables of course (velocity, pellet weight, scope) so you really ought to take Stanley's advice on this one and check where your shots are actually landing at distances past 13 yds. You might find that you also need windage adjustments to hit your POA at the extended distances. Chairgun and other computer generated programs don't necessarily account for all the variables so don't neglect actual field testing.Have fun.
