Which one for First one?
« on: February 13, 2010, 03:47:41 AM »
If I ever get the 460 AirMag sold I am going to get a pcp. Now I like the RWS 460 Heck just got back from a walk/hunt with it. But I am "in need of FPE" kinda guy and the springer just isnt fulfilling my wants. Anyways Here they are.....Hammerli Pneauma .22, Maurader .22 and/or .25, Disco just so I can get a pretty new stock for it which I am going to do anyways, Or Up the cost a little past 5bills and go with Evanix Ar6. Anyways I know there is a lot of "what should I for first on here" and its all up to me But your 2pennies will come in handy I am shure.

Well, here's my 2 cents..........

You can't go wrong with either the Marauder or the Disco.  I have both and both are outstanding rifles.  The 10 shot rotary clip on the Marauder is simply outstanding while hunting, especially tough critters like squirrel in case  you need a fast second shot or if you take down one squirrel and there's more in the tree  :)   The Marauder also comes already set up for a sling, which is nice to have since the Marauder, while not too heavy, has some weight to it.  The Marauder is so quiet it's amazing, another big plus in the hunting situation.

Now for the Disco........ very light and easy to carry all day long.  Excellent power and accuracy (just like the Marauder) but yet this power is achieved with a fill pressure of only 2000 psi.  This 2000 psi fill gives you a ton of fills from your scuba tank, much more than a rifle needing a 3000 psi fill,  and that 2000 psi fill is especially appreciated if you're going to be using a pump to air it up.  Drawbacks to the disco.......... the stock can be a little "small" for a full grown adult, although I've gotten used to mine, and in it's stock form it's a bit loud  (although that can be correct).  Also, keep in mind for around $369 bucks you can get the disco/pump combo which means you are all set to start shooting and or hunting as soon as you open the box.  With the Marauder or other PCP's you have to buy the equipment to air it up.

Since both the Mrod and the disco are from Crosman you know you will have outstanding customer service support and an easy and inexpensive supply of spare parts, extra barrels, etc.

For someone diving into PCP's for the first time my 2 cents would be to go with a disco.  Personally I think it's the perfect shooting platform for a beginner... or even an "expert".

As for the pneuma.......... I don't own one but I have shot them and I was not all that impressed.  The ones I shot were a bit loud and I've heard of some air leakage problems with them.  I'm not sure how they're customer service dept operates but I doubt it's as easy as dealing with Crosman.

Ok,,,, there's my 2 cents.............  other members may have different opinions I'm sure.... but those are my thoughts    :)

Ditto what LongIsland said. I had a disco (was good), now a Maruader 22, very, very nice. With a custom stock, it would be even better.

thanks Jeff. Finally some -feedback on the Pneauma, your the first. I really believe I will be going with the Disco. I just love tricking things out and so far from what I have seen on here with stocks and barrel mods I am going to be into this gun for a while. Now to just come up with some dough$$$$

Put one of Timmy's custom disco stocks on it and you've got one heck of a rifle  :)

I may be ordering one from Timmy very soon  :)

My disco is .177 and I love it,  but I plan on picking up one in .22 so I have a matched set  :)

If you are looking at Foot Pounds of Energy ( I think that is what FPE stands for) you should check out the Evanix AR6 in .22 cal. If you want something a bit quieter check out the Evanix Blizzard in .22. Very quiet.

Both more powerful than the current generation of Marauders. Even the Evanix Revolution has a lot of power and it is on sale at pyramydair these days.

All have beautiful stocks and good metal blueing on them. With current sale pricing on some models they make a lot of sense.

look at a Career Infinity .22  45fpe with a 14.5 grain pellet @ 1220fps..
but put 28 or 32grain though it and yer near 60fpe...
I have had 2 AR6s really great guns if yer after power..They can be tuned
to put out over 90fpe..shot count suffers...
I desided the Career was a better total package than the ARs..so I kept it...

And from what I have read the Blizzard was losely copyed from the Career..???
but it dose have a 10 shot mag...Career has a 6..

Blizzard over the AR6 would be my choice....

Ps..not sure if the Infinity still made..????

Kiwi,

I have only seen the Air Arms 410 in photos but I thought the Evanix Blizzard looked a lot like that model. Any info on it?

I really enjoy the Blizzard. Quiet and very nice to shoot. I fell into the deal on it from a seller on these forums. Very glad I bought it. With some of the deals going these days it seems a lot of folks will be able to afford air rifles they only looked at before. Some low prices out there and some sweet deals on the re-sale forums.

I have not had the pleasure of trying many PCP rifles so my knowledge is limited. With a bit of luck I will get a few more chances this coming summer. Then I will have a better basis for comparison. Really want to shoot a FX Cyclone,  Revolution and Monsoon, Daystate Airwolf, Theoben Rapid and HW 100. All to get the feel of which I want in .177 calibre for a fast shooting repeater. If, after having the chance to shoot them I don't feel one is really better for what I am looking for in that calibre I will either go with another Blizzard or the Marauder. This one will be the 'beater gun' for the pickup, tractor and barn use. Want a good shooter but it has to be able to last in use under less than ideal conditions. Considering this I might opt for the Marauder since their prices should continue to drop a bit over this next year.
