BENT NICKLE.
« on: February 18, 2010, 03:46:59 AM »
Was bored last night thinking about things to test the gun on and remembered someone mentioned pennies. SO I started there. NOT RECOMENDED! They explode and parts flew around the garage including one peice that hit the wall behind me. I was shooting at 35 ft and placed them in the plumbers putty to hold it. After the penny broke I figured dimes. Destroyed it. It is bent like crazy so the only logical thing was nickles! SO after bending 5 of them with the JSB 7.33 gr and HN 10.65 gr I determined it was not a weak nickle or lucky shot. What is next on the list? I am going to Wally world to night for golf tee's paint balls and poker chips. Figure with that and all the siloettes I have should be a good shoot this weekend. And just got the email my Gamo squirrel target is on its way, yeah!

No, I would not try that at home. Pennies and such are laminated metals these days. Leaving one a railroad track is ok, but I wouldn't recommend shooting them with anything. Hope you were wearing safety glasses, if not a full face shield.

I did the same thing with a penny, then I found that some penny's made 1982 and before are 95% copper(I say some because 1982 was the change over year and some are made in Zinc), those made after 1982 are 99.2% Zinc. The copper penny will bend like what you saw in the nickel and dime (however I have not shot at them, I have only tried to shoot a penny)

Heh heh....I think one time or another almost every airgunner had shot at a penny or some other coin.  One of my first posts here are of shot up pennies....the Canadian ones bent and dented.....the U.S ones shattered.  Distance was 10 meters.
