BINGO!
« on: February 21, 2010, 08:19:19 AM »
Hey All,

I was debating on whether to post here or in Bargin Gate.  My old fraternity brothers had a little club called "Flint Brothers Club" for skinflints.  We are all so cheap its painful.  Guess it was out of necessity so we had more beer money!

Well, I was thinking all this target printing on my color laser was costing me about $0.15-$0.20 per sheet and I saw recently someone said they were shooting at dollar store playing cards.  So I made a trip to the Dollar General for targets and stumbled across these bingo markers and thought hmmmmmm.  As you can see they get the paper wet so it crinkles a little but fine for my purpose.  I save a bunch of cardboard from my wife's store and general recycling.  Works great on cardboard.  I'm thinking I can do literally hundreds if not a thousand sheets of targets with these markers.  The best thing is just press and you've got a perfect circle.  I was coloring circles with a Sharpie but they always end up oval and different in size.  These are generally the same size so perfect!

Also, my wife had a bunch of yard signs for a merchants association program.  Instead of throwing them away I made target holders out of them.  Here's one that I use to hold 11x17 sheets of paper.  I use clothes pins or those metal binder clips to hold the paper on.  I've also cut and bent one leg to make spoon spinners.  The best spoons are from Ikea.  Cheap and very thick.

Anyway, I was thinking with all the money I'm saving here I deserve another rifle...LOL

Thanks for the reminder. I've heard about these. Beats stick-ons, too. Hey, you forgot to mention the dollar decks of playin cards. I'm thinking about getting a can of Niagra spray starch and ironing some printer paper to see if it will get the finish right for wadcutters, too.

I like the Bingo Marker idea.....I'm going to try it later in the week.  I've seen those markers in dollar stores....and they're pretty cheap.

No intention of stealing your thunder whatsoever. I do recollect it but am appreciative of your bringing it back up. If it's any consolation, I've only seen it mentioned once. There's a thread going on the Dianawek about dollar store accessories and I thought it might be yours but it looks like you guys are great minds, thinking alike, as they say! Necessity is the mother of invention. Great post here!  :D

Great find, I visit the dollar store every week. Finally found a couple bags of little army men..:) I use there cheap dollar playing cards for targets also. Last year I bought a bunch of spoons that were super cheap and made spinners. Work great. I found a few of the sign holders for free. Put my spinners on them. But I will have to check out your Bingo stuff..:) I wonder if they have it in different colors?

What rifle you buying next Andy?

Redfeather,

Yeah I was hanging for a while over at Dianawerks but left after the big thread explosion on the Vortek.  Seemed a bit misdirected and a bunch of guys getting their panties in a bunch.  Since I was spending way too much time on various forums I dropped that one from my "favorites drop down list" in Internet Explorer.  Maybe I need to go back since I think I have as many Dianas now as QBs (I count the 4 Winchesters as Dianas)!

Gene,

I got some of those army men too.  Problem is they are such hard plastic I hit one with a CPH going 850 or so from my Diana 48 that it literally exploded.  All that was left was a bunch of red bits and the guy's feet!

Yeah, they come in red, orange, white (?), blue and black.  I thought I was getting black based on the cap color.  Maybe that's why they're at the dollar store!

Next rifle?  I think I might be in trouble because I've got an inquiry on a UK Patriot in .25!  I bought a new 8' tall cabinet and think if I stack them two high I can get another few dozen in there!

The trick to drawing circles with a Sharpie is to trace around the inside of a metal washer. Perfect circles every time. Keep different size washers for larger or smaller aim-points.
