Wouldn't ya know it ...
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:05:54 AM »
Got a new gun yesterday and the Starlings haven't came near the place for two days now. They've been flying back and forth between tree tops staying about a half block away.

Even my Crow buddies were calling this morning, but only a few fly-overs. Dang !

I wonder if there is some sort of other attractant you can use?  I know food works, but what about decoys (as we've seen on here) or some sort of sound?  I have a crow call, but I can tell you they know to stay away from my street. :D  All it takes is one winged or missed crow and your crow shooting is over, and they tell their friends, and they tell their friends, it is a hard lesson to learn.

I think Dave got it, they know somethings up.  It's simple association.

They've learned to beware of anytime they see the color brown.  Hawks are brown.... a big brown truck pulls up .... guy in brown uniform carries a big brown box to the back door,.....  not long after lead starts flying at them.

UPS needs to start using camo !!!! :D

Now what you do Paul is go where they can hear you and say loudly, that you don't like the gun and are sending it back ;-)

Dave,   :D

Sure ! Just when I get  a sore throat from a cold.

Along the lines of your idea.....  I think I'll close up the shipping box and carry out and put it in car acting like it's really heavy. Think it'll work ?  :D

Saw a lone Starling this morning under the feeder and thought maybe todays the day to blood the new gun.... by the time I remember what was the last pellet it was sighted in for .... then got it loaded.. it was gone !!!!

Oh well. Meantime breaking in and figuring out the new guns is fun !

I was going to tell you to do that too LOL, did that include the time it takes to cock it? ;-)   ( I see PA lists it at 47 lbs, my RS 3 is listed at 31 and its some effort)
