Ruger Air Hawk
« on: March 09, 2010, 05:45:10 PM »
Well I got The Ruger Air Hawk in today that I bought from Gene.  Along with a new Leapers scope and mount.  Bolted her all togather and after the rain stopped out to the backyard range we went.  Folks I must tell you that a gun tuned to perfection is a thrill to shoot!!!!  I think i wet my pants.  This gun is not only a Gene tuned tack driver, but it has been customized and restocked by none other than Timmy.  You guys are a helluva combination.  Gene the gun is awesome!!  I couldn't get it to group 5 shots better than a .355" ctc at 25 yards with 8.3 RWS Superdomes (must be the shaky old man in me).  What really upsets me is I went out and found some material you reccommended for the spring guide for my Whisper that I had on the bench and finished it up while waiting for the rain to stop and reassembled it.  Tried to follow all of the details and advice that I've picked up on the forum, from you, & Mr. Bob and had two guns to work with when the rain stopped this afternoon.  Gene, I'm not as good a you by any means but I'm proud to say that the Whisper did manage a respectable 5 shot group of .385" ctc at 25 yards with Superdomes.  Right after that was when I strained my arm patting myself on the back....lol.  I was thrilled with the results of this tune and am ready to start on the other 3 guns I have in waiting.  This forum has been the reason for my reborn interest in shooting again within a reasonable economic structure (even though my wife dosen't think so).  It has now given me a new interest in tuning and working with these rifles to try and acheive that all elusive "Ten Ring" on the target.  Thanks to Gene, Timmy , Bob, and everyone here in the GTA family.  It is a great place to be!!!!

Tim

Sure glad you are happy with the Ruger, Tim. Timmy and I spent quite a few hours working out some of the bugs in the Ruger. We were trying to get the best overall cocking and shooting cycle that we could. Actually I think Timmy's Ruger was a bit smoother cocking than mine..:) But both enjoyed the TLC to make them as nice of a shooter as we could. Timmy is a perfectionist when it comes to anything. Just the work he did on his and my stocks was beautiful. He has such a great eye for wood..

Timmy and I work great together just like Bob and I did those years I spent in his shop learniing the trade. The Ruger was hard to let go of but I am over run with guns at the moment and just need some more room to move around in..:) The main thing is that you are happy with the Ruger and that truly makes me happy.

THE ONES I SLEEP WITH: BSA Lightning XL, AA TX-200, AA ProSport, BSA Ultra, HW-97K, Crosman NPSS .177, FX Cyclone, HW-30 Nicle Plated, AA-S200, Crosman Marauder, CZ-634, R-9 DG, Webley/Scott UK Tomahawk, Benji Kantana, Benji Marauder, Benji Discovery.....
