Coyotes to the left, Coyotes to the right.
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:25:13 AM »
Sorry. not about hunting coyotes with an AG.   But it is about hunting coyotes.    There has been alot of talk about how numerous these pests have become across the country.   Well,  my youngest son's father in law has hired a man at the farm just to shoot coyotes.  He is paying a bounty for every carcuss.   This fellow put a calf's carcass in a tree the other day and several hours later my son shot a male coyote at about 110 yards with a .270 .  Even solidly hit, he ran before he dropped.   Complete bullet pass through.  And according to my son this animal had massive damage to lungs and heart.  Weighed about 35 lbs.  Male.

Reason for the hired shooter?   The cows are dropping calves now  and the coyotes are killing them before they can get to thier feet.  Each calf is worth several hundred Dollars each.

I 'm planning to go this weekend and set up a hide.  Perhaps I can get one.   We have the calls etc.   Also scout for turkeys.  Season opens 3-20.

Carcass = body of a dead animal.
Carcuss=  body of a dead coyote.
Gentleman of Fortune.

Hum-bug!

Good luck! I just joined the TN Predator Hunters forum! I'm also going to the predator hunters show in Columbus Ohio!

Haven't bought a gun yet but I'm looking at a lot of them.

Yeah sometimes they are pretty hard to drop... I've already had a yote run 50 yards after a 100 yard shot with a 30-06 in hollow point

They can run, but they are still going to die after being hit solidly.

Hey Atchman2, I too will be at the Columbus show.  I will be working a booth for gametracker calls.  Come over and say hello.

I'll look you up!  I've never got to shoot at a coyote-yet!  I just bought some hand calls and today I bought a H & R single shot Varmint Rifle.  It has a 4 x 12 scope and is in .223.  It also has the varmint bull barrel so I can hunt prairie dogs out in Kansas.  Now I need for it to stop raining here so I can shoot it a bit before going hunting.

40 miles west of Montreal, they also had a great number of coyote sightings.  A lady/land owner had to hire a trapper to trap and kill them.  He got 15 of them from last fall to about a month ago (6 months time).  No hunting near and around Montreal unfortunately.

I think that is a good case for bow and crossbow hunting around the urban and suburban areas.  Big bore air guns would be a good idea as well.  Talk about asking for a divorce!   I couldn't imagine trying to get a big bore PCP by my wifey without selling something else!

I'll come by on Saturday! My wife is coming up with me. She watches predator hunting on TV with me.  I'm starting to accumulate all the stuff for predator hunting; calls, camo, and finally my first centerfire rifle.
