which cal. b26-2?

I have been looking for some time now and pondering on what pellet rifle to get next. it is so very hard and there are so so many to look at but have finally decided upon the B26-2 low comb. my next issue is what cal I primarily hunt but still love a good accurate paper puncher out to 50 yards and my reasoning for deciding on this gun was the budget I have to work with and great looks of the rifle(thought the *_*_*_*_*_*y chick holding it in the photo's at best air was selling it to me pretty good) as well as I hear so many people mentioning the B's this and that and figure they must be a decent rifle for 150$. any help with making this decision or shortcomings of this rifle that would that would ease my deciding pain.

well i have the b26 sporter stock and its very accurate out to 45 yds however the .22 will give u the same distance as 50 if thats what u lookin at but at a stronger hit.but to hunt any small game its best to keep it at 35 and under cause its a better taken shot and with a good scope u will not miss.One shot is all u will need depending on where the shot hits .Why u should keep it under 50yds and stay at 35 and under?Cause even with a .177 u could take it down however i find the b25.22 is a harder hitting airrifle cause i have both the b26.177 and b25.22 bamboo stock sniper style and both r excellent but, for hunting a b25.22 at 35 yds and under will definitly hit hard ,i hope this info could be of some use to u my 2 cents worth .....jorge nys

I have the Mike Melick tuned B26-2 in .22 and it is one of the most accurate air guns I have after finding what pellet it likes best. I tried a bunch of different pellets and mine stacks the Beeman FTS at 15 yards. I haven't tried it at much further distances but I think it would make a good hunting air gun. The .177 will probably shoot flatter and be better for paper punching but the .22 will pack more of a wallop. When I shoot at a metal spinner target the .22s sound like the are hitting the spinners harder and make the heavy spinner swing a lot more than a .177. I don't think you would be dissapointed in either caliber.

thanks jorge i mainly shoot only paper out to 50 unless the nutter decides to sit on top the target while i'm at the bench . your info will be very useful i have never owned nor shot a .22 air rifle.

Both cals are great shooters for target and game but it depends on what you plan to hunt when hunting. If it's going to be just smaller game like nutters, bird's and G-hogs then I would go with the .177. With the .177 you can kill paper too and still take a small critter if you want. The .22's are great shooters but excel in the hunting field. I have two in .177 but there's a .22 in my future, pic of my lady who just got a camo job. Ed

Shady, I have the .22 B-26-2 with a customized stock. I love it.

But, if had your criteria, I would probably get the .177. This rifle would shine with the lighter pellet. If you really want a .22 mainlyto punch critters,I would go with more gun. Since you mainly punch paper and have .177 ammo on hand, I would get that, and still know that with good shot placement, no nutter will be walking away if I do my job. You can swap ammo between guns, too.

Ok I will chime in now. I have one of each, a B26-2 .22 but with the sporter stock and a B26 .177 sporter. I love them both and my RWS Diana 34P sits on the rack while I shoot the B26's. Right now I like the .177 best as I am able to drop a nutter with an eye shot out past 40 yards. The .22 was sticking me to around 35 to 40 but because of the drop I was missing a lot of clean kills. When I get the .22 back together I will see if it does better with the German spring Mike M sent me. I have been using the .177 for long range nutters and either of my .22 AG's for the shorter range stuff. Also my .177 will shoot Beeman Silver Bears and the Coated Beeman HPs in the same spot out to 40 yards. The CPHP are about the same spot and 10.5 gr domes are just a 1/4 inch down (1 mil dot) at 40 yards so it is not very pellet sensitive and the pellets will punch through both sides of a heavy dog food tin at 35 to 40 yards. So I can't see why a .22 would be a better hunter if you can stack pellets in a 1/4 hole @ 35 to 40 yards you can hit a nutter in his melon and call it good. Only gun I shot that was more deadly was an AA Prosport and it was .177 cal taking 3 nutters in 30 minutes 2 through the eye and one through the ear and out the eye.

So in short right now my $100 B26 blemished .177 is my favorite AG. I tuned it and polished the trigger assembly, but I left the original spring in it with a new seal and it is a killin machine.

some may have misunderstood my second post I do mostly hunt but when I punch the paper I like to back things up to the 45-70 yard range for fun. I do appreciate all the nice info and has leaning towards the 177 since I was not thinking I already keep a rather large supply of assorted pellets on hand at first was actually sold on the .22 just because I do not own one.
