I've read that it's sycamore wood, but that's just what I've read.

...and American Sycamore at that, according to Crosman.

Here was an interesting article about the wood supplier. http://www.mpnnow.com/towns/bloomfield/x223022375/Firearms-icons-shop-at-Victor-businessTook a while to load.

Another interesting note (but a little snarky)- the people who cringed at the Benjamin logo laser cut into the Marauder stock are now oohing and aahing over the large "FX" cut into the new Royale stock. Yes, some of the very same people. Sometimes it only counts if it's European and 4 figures. Then it's cool.

The new FX Royale does look like a heckuva rifle. Just can't help thinking, you can get3 Marauders for that kind of cash.

THANKS FOR THE INFO......
« Reply #3 on: March 23, 2010, 01:08:24 AM »
THANK YOU GUYS, NOW I WILL CHECK SOMETHING VERY STRANGE FOR ME DUE THAT THE MARAUDER STOCK IS A LITTLE SOFT.... YES THE WOOD OF THE MARAUDER IS A LITTLE SOFT. I PRESS MY NAIL IN THE BACK OF THE STOCK IN THE BUT PAD AREA AND I MADE A MARK WITH THE NAIL, THAT MEANS WOOD SOFTNESS, AND I WILL HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER PROCEDURE TO STAIN THE MARAUDER WOOD.

THANKS AGAIN,

I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER PRODUCTS TO WORK WITH THIS KIND OF WOOD.

SPECIFICATIONS AND USE OF THE MARAUDER WOOD
« Reply #4 on: March 23, 2010, 01:11:12 AM »
I AM NOT NEITHER CLOSE TO A WOOD EXPERT, BUT ....MY DOUBT WAS TOTALLY CONFIRMED, THE MARAUDER WOOD IS A  SOFT WOOD, SO TAKE CARE TO DO NOT FALL YOUR MARAUDER OVER THE GROUND OR YOU WILL HAVE A VERY LARGE DUMP HOLE ON YOUR STOCK.

AND THAT HAPPENS TO ME ALREADY, BUT I AM CHANGING THE MARAUDER STOCK DESIGIN, NO PROBLEM.

Sycamore
Scientific Name:
Platanus occidentalis

Other Names and Species:
American Planetree
Buttonball Tree
Buttonwood
Planetree

Origin:
Canada and Northern to Mid-Southern America

Appearance:
The sapwood of sycamore ranges from white to light yellow to reddish-brown or flesh-colored, while the heartwood ranges more towards light to dark brown in color. The species has an interlocked and irregular grain, and is fine and even in texture.

Properties:
Sycamore has a poor resistance to decay, and as such should be treated and placed appropriately. The wood is reported to have no odor. Sycamoree is diffuclt and time consuming to dry properly as it shrinks and occassionally warps.

Janka Hardness: 770
As a flooring option, sycamore falls on the lower end of the Janka hardness scale. It is between longleaf and shortleaf southern pine in hardness, is forty-three percent softer than white oak, about forty-seven percent softer than wenge, and is only thirty-five percent as hard as santos mahogany's ranking of 2200.

Workability:
Sycamore can be slightly difficult to saw properly without tearing rays. Pre-boring is suggested in thinner pieces yet the wood holds nails well once applied. Glue holds satisfactorily well with sycamore flooring. This species requires some care to sand and polish properly.

Principal Uses:
Sycamore's uses include flooring, building materials, vaneer, paneling, packing cases, and wanescoating.
