Ya know fella's the bottom line here is no matter how you want to look at this in terms these are still adult toys! that we use to enjoy yourselfs with whether were hunting or paper punching or shootin cans or rocks or what ever if you use common since and take care of your toys they will last a long time depending on thier use, like one person said [springs /seals] thier like brakes on a car if you drive the car hard all the time the brakes are gonna wear out sooner than if you drove it a little easier but you know what your still enjoyin it no matted how you use it and I like alot of people in this hobbie like to work on my own AG's and change my own brakes so to speak, I find alot of pleasure in doing so! I was told along time ago about having things like cars if you dont learn how to fix it your gonna pay somebody else to do it for you. This is why I dont worrie about breakin a spring or a seal in any of my AG's cause I've learned to fix them myself and enjoy what I have so thing like this dont become an issue to me I just take care of the problem! :p

Boy this topic is a lose, lose situation. What I will say for the new comers is if you can't fix your own guns DO NOT SHOOT HEAVY PELLETS!!!! This will put excessive wear and tear on the spring and seals and then you will have to send the gun out for repair. Now that takes away from your shooting time. I've owned a ton of air rifle from high end to low end. Guns like the Rws 350 and its clones, the 460, the Webley Patriot as well as some other being made in .177 cal just doesn't make sense to me. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, if I want to drive a .177 pellet that fast I'll pick up a Benji Disco and save hauling around all that weight or pick up a Crosman springer shooting 7.9 gr @ 900 fps. Just my opinion.

yep....six or seven years ago  I experienced twice a gun actually re cock itself and it was the result of too heavy a pellet (the customer sent me a sample of the pellet he was using) and lube getting into the combustion chamber causing some serious detonation. Needless to say, the spring was fatigued, severely canted and  junk when I tore it down along with some seal damage and the chamber section of the tube slightly distorted.

Good advice Jason... and just because a pellet shoots well and is accurate in one gun, it certainly doesn't mean that it will in another.... including a gun the came down the assembly line right behind the one that shot well.

It's not so much don't shoot heavy pellets as it is don't shoot really, really heavy pellets designed for PCP's. In most instances, they won't work very well anyway. Kind of like taking lead bullets and cutting a cross into the tip. Sounds awesome but it seldom produces anywhere near positive results. So, if your gun likes a pellet on the upper end of the weight scale, that's fine. Maybe a bit quicker wear on components, but that's all. Average lifetime of springs and seals is exactly that - average based upon standard weight ammo. Guess if you went really light, well, we know what PBA's can do to a gun.
