Shadow Express
« on: April 08, 2010, 07:10:24 AM »
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum.
I must confess I went pcp long ago but I just purchased the Shadow Express shotgun for a very specific rat venue. I'm aware of the ballistic limitations but they will suffice for my application (if I can do my part). That said, I'd like to optimize the gun. Turbo tune or Super tune or gas ram, GRT III, lube etc. Should I do this before I fire it to avoid potential scratches and scarring. Do any of you have experience with gas rams? Are they quieter?
Thanks in advance

a gas ram generaly is not as loud as a spring,no twang to speak of but more of a thud and the feel of shooting one generaly feels like one solid kick without all the jumping around like a spring does.   and welcome to the GTA don't forget the photos of the splattered rats these folks love pic's.

Welcome to GTA ,, it's very nice to have you with us.  I just bought a gas ram rifle, the  Benji Trail XL in .22 cal and it definitely is quieter than my springers.  Also, like Robert said the gas ram doesn't have any of the torquing or vibration that springers have,,,, I find it much nicer to shoot.  I've never installed a gas ram so I really can't answer your question about installation, but I'm sure someone will chime in who knows....  Again, WELCOME....

Ray, I would highly recommend a turbo tune on that model. Go ahead a put some lead through her to make sure there is not warrantee issue and you are at least happy with the perfomance you are looking for.. The trubo tune will give you a very sweet overall cocking and shooting cycle along with a low overall deviation.

First, thank you for the replies.
The gun arrived today and I shot it twice. 6" group at 20'. Worked as advertised and is sufficient for my requirements.
I have had 2 R1s, an R7, an R10, and currently have a Venom tuned HW77 with a Burris 6x24, a C1 with SS 1x4 (both of which have been in the safe for at least 15 years), and a regulated  A.A. SM100 with Zozodney moderator and Leupold 6x24 with a Premier reticle which I use often.
This $100 Gamo is really disturbing to shoot. It sounds  and feels like a train wreck is happening against my head. I know that you get what you pay for but will a Turbo tune and GRT III or gas ram ,tune up, and GRT III mitigate this currently intolerable explosion or should I just get a trigger and live with it? My HW77 is a joy for a spring gun and I can't conceive of this.....thing ever even approaching it. But I do want to develope these shot shells and have a need.
I knew it would be this way but it is far worse than I expected. Which way should I go?

Welcome to the forum!

I have a Gamo Hunter with gas ram and it is so smooth and accurate. I like it over the Spring Big cat I have. More power, more accurate and smoother shooting cycle.

I would highly recommend the GRT trigger if yours has the metal trigger in it. That is the best upgrade I have added to both of my Gamo's. The Maccari tune kit I installed in my Big cat was a night and day difference. Quieted it down alot, brought back some of the power and accuracy is very good. 1/2 in groups at 25 yards. Its a very good choice. Also if it has a hollow stock you can fill it. I am going to do that tonight to my Big Cat. This will quiest it down also.

If you do it yourself you will need a spring compressor. There are alot of really good ideas on here on how to build them. It not a hard job will take about 2 hours to tear down debur and reassemble.

Good luck and good shooting.
