I picked up a new Crosman NPSS .177 locally last Friday.  Wanted the .22, but had none so I settled on the .177. Figured I could run a heavier pellet (say 9 to 10 grains) for better penetration and it would be fine.

I put over a hundred pellets thru it over the weekend and then put it over the chronograph this a.m. and was rather disappointed in the results:

RWS Meisterkugeln 8.2 grains AVG. 759fps (Hi;768, Lo;747)

Gamo Hunter 7.56 grains AVG. 830fps (Hi;844, Lo;822)

The Gamo’s apparently have a lot of variation in diameter with some slipping right in and some very difficult to chamber (these had the lower fps).

From seeing what other folks are posting with similiar weight pellets, it appears that this rifle is about 100+ fps slower.

My question is....does this indicate anything is wrong with the rifle? Or just luck of the draw?

Thanks,

Jerry

I thought I had a sh!**y .177 npss. Mine is shooting jsb 8.4 about 800 fps. I replaced the seal, and did a lube tune  and it didn't change a thing. This rifle is my only regrettable air rifle purchase.
