Hello All, New springer owner.
« on: April 24, 2010, 02:42:27 PM »
Hi everyone,  I just got myself a Crosman Storm XT with the Crosspoint 3-9x32 scope, and I am enjoying it very much. Like anything else I wanted to make it better and my search has lead me here. Awesome forums! Great place for a noob like me to learn about these fun and very capable weapons.
I have been shooting my rifle for about a week now, around 300 rounds, and the trigger on this thing is terrible. I can get 2 or 3in.groups at 30 yards, but they are generaly pulled to the right. I feel like I'm pulling it trying to squeeze the trigger.  I have already ordered the GRT III trigger for it, as from everything I've read ,it is the first upgrade to be made.
Also I read about barrel lapping and was wanting to get your opinions on it and is it worth the time and effort. I love doing tedious work like that and would'nt mind doing if there are gains to be had.
I haven't cleaned or oiled this gun since I've had it. Is there anything I should look for/clean/lube at this point?

Well I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as time goes by so I won't make this post any longer. Thanks guys for taking the time to make a place like this.

Welcome to the GTA Forums Skip !

The Best Air Gun Forums on the Internet !!!! And, It's such a GREAT PLACE TO BE !!!!

The GRT-III trigger is not only the first mod to make, but the BEST !!!!

I would wait to see how much betteryour groups get after the GRT-III, it makes shooting your air gun fun ! Barrel lapping my not show the results that you hope, with the variations of pellets, you may never see any positive affects.

Trying different pellets will also help your groups, Crosman Premier lights, Crosman Premier Hollow Points and JSB Diabolo Exactsseem to give the best results in most air guns. Others may work better in yours.

You should have cleaned your Storm when you first received it. Then allowed your barrel to season, or allow the lead to fill in the inconsistencies in the barrel.

When cleaning your air gun, it is recomended that you use a weed whipper line run from the breach of the air gun, to thee front of the barrel, the line can be heated and a loop or a ball can be made to attach your cleaning patch to. Use a small dab of Goo-Gone on your patch, and pull through the barrel. Do this two or three times, or until clean, then run dry patches through until dry.

You should only clean your air gun every 1000- 1500 pellets, or until you notice a loss in accuracy.

WHEW ! But now that you are a member of our air gun family, feel free to drop in, kick off your ..shoes and ask away !

Hope to see you here often !

Thanks Bill, thats what I was looking for on the lapping. I'm not gonna shoot in matches just plinking and some taget shooting in the back yard. Maybe some varmits here and there.

I have been searching the forum and have found many answers  and great ideas already.I definately  want to have this gun tuned in the near future and I'm starting to think about a PCP. I am probably gonna have to join Air Guns Addicted Anonymous!

Thanks for the info

A big welcome to the GTA forum and family.  Everything I wanted to say Big Bill have said....lots of excellent advice.  I also have a Storm XT with a GRT III trigger....and she gives me 1" to 1 1/2" groups out to 30 yards.  Yours will need a few more shots to break in the rifle....let the innards smooth out abit.  My Storm's spring broke after over 2700 shots....and I put in a weaker spring to lessen the noise for backyard pest bird sniping.

Welcome to the GTA FAMILY Skip and the fellow family members here got you going in the right direction. If you plan on getting it tuned breaking it in now will be short lived since after the tune the shooter will need to be broken in again. It take's some shooting time to give the tune time to settle in along with seasoning the barrel with lead, it's cleaned during a tune. The pellet that the airgun had a fancy for may change after a tune also but like with any airgun it's just a matter of finding what they like to shoot. The trigger and tune will give you a smoother and more consistent shooter for target or hunting and it's always nice to have a predictable shooter. :) Again welcome to the family and we look forward to your future post. Hi Skip... i have three different springers and am fairly new here myself, but i think the best advise i recieved when i started is DON'T HOLD IT TIGHT..... meaning just handle it like a newborn baby... nice and easy ...  i believe this is what Tom Gaylord would call the artillery hold.  Second, i've found only shoot good pellets ( crosman premier hollow points work best for me) , and you've already done #3, that is getting the GRT-III trigger, other than that is : shoot, shoot, shoot..... it seems that the more you shoot them the better they perform...

Salutations and Greetings Skip.    The Storm XT is a decent AG to begin your AG shooting hobby.    I own 1 myself.   It is easy to work on and the parts can be had from Crosman at a fair price.  The trigger is difficult but as everyone will tell you the GRT replacement trigger will improve the AG.  Just be careful after you do the install as the trigger pull will be much lighter than you expect.   Keep pointed in a safe direction and your finger off the trigger until pointing at a safe target.  If you are like everyone else you will be surprised by the difference in pull weight.
Gentleman of Fortune.

Thanks Guys for your replys. You make me feel right at home. I have spoken to shadow about having my rifle tuned. When my trigger arrives she will be on her way to him. I have tried several pellets through it( what I have available locally) CPHPs seem to work the best. I have also tried the crosman destroyer ex..not too bad. RWS super points seem to be better at longer shots. Daisy precision max...all flyers...I guess that's why they are so cheap. Anyway I guess I'll have to start all over when I get my gun back. It does favor skirt sizes in the .185 range.

Ok enough for now. Again thanks guys for your help and insight look forward to chatting with you guys in the future.

Allow me to add to the welcome to the forum, Skip. You've already found that there's plenty of shooters here that are more than happy to give advice and their own experiences. This is a most friendly place to be. Just enjoy!  I think you've already joined the Air Guns Addicted Anonymous club. Most of us are charter members now.:>) Larry

The number one thing i did to get my walther talon .22 and storm xt to shoot good was to clean them with patchs. it made a world of differance in accuracy. I ran patchs through them tied to a piece of fishing line until clean. It took a lot of patchs on both guns. You may also have to put a few hundred pellets through it afterwords as stated in above post. Be shure NOT to rub that line on the breech or the crown while cleaning and possobly wear into the metal.
