Spent most of the afternoon running around doing errands but finally finished up around 4:30 so I had just enough time to grab a gun and race to the duck farm to get in some starling shooting. Opened the gun safe and grabbed my beloved R-9 Goldfinger .177, then grabbed some CPL's to go along with it.
Pulled into the farm about 10 minutes later and immediately saw the trees near my parking spot filled with birds. Rolled down the window, popped in a CPL and took aim at a starling that was perched way out on the end of a branch at the very top of one of the trees. Distance was 30 yards. Pulled the rekord trigger, gun fired and heard that beautiful "thwap" of pellet hitting feathers. Bird fell and did a death glide, landing about 20 yards from the tree.
I tried walking around the farm looking for targets, but the birds were as spooky today as they were the other day. I was at the far end of the farm and when I looked back towards the trees near my truck all I could see was starlings perched in all the trees. I returned to those trees and set up a makeshift blind behind a large oil tank that was 30 yards from the trees.
Within minutes of getting concealed I had some birds land in the trees. Picked out one in the clear, same routine as the first bird and same result. Starling #2 was down. I sat in my blind until 6;15 and wound up nailing a total of 7 birds. I would've stayed longer, and would've gotten more shots but had to get home to bar-b-q some steaks for the family.
No pics today, was rushing to get the steaks and dinner done. Next time though I'll make sure I post some pics.
