Well spring turkey season came and went. Over the span I managed to spend money on two calls, a blind, new shotgun, special shells, etc. Not to mention new camo clothes, hat, and a hunting vest (which I had before but "outgrew").
Over that time I did see lots of birds, but just didn't know how to hunt them. Yesterday I saw one out in a field and tried to low crawl to him. He must have thought a bear was stalking him as big as I am.
In my after actions, I think I should have taken a week off the first week of the season when they were really in the mating mood. I've had more time the last few weeks, but they had already bred and were splitting up. Also I didn't really know what I was doing then and if I knew then what I know now, I think I could have gotten several birds.
My hunting area changed so much over the weeks too. When I first started going out it was VERY cold and the grass was short. Yesterday when I walked out of the field the grass was above my waist and it was 83 degrees and extrememly humid.
I emailed the landowner and told him to tell his wife I decided to "spare" the turkeys this time. Maybe when it is fall I can try it again.
It is spring squirrel season so I'm shifting gears back to air guns. It isn't that I haven't been shooting them; I'm just not hunting with them right now. One of the guys I met at the coyote calling seminar came over yesterday to shoot air guns with me. He was wanting a hunting air gun and I recommended a TF 89 as his first gun. The combination of power, accuracy, and a good price makes it hard to beat for a hunting gun. I still have my compressor, lubricants, and the modified gizmo you need to take one apart. He put several shotsi in the same hole with it. I also demonstrated the difference between it and my Gamo.
I put two cans on the fence 10 yards away. I shot the first with the Gamo .177, hit it and knocked it over. I had filled them with water to better see the impact. When he shot the TF 89 at the can, it put a half an inch hole in the front and blew the entire back of the can out.

The Gamo only left a small entrance and exit hole-I should have been an air gun salesman. I think Compasseco owes me commission on this one! :p
