WInd Foiled My Fun..:(
« on: May 08, 2007, 01:14:31 AM »
I was all ready to get out the door this morning to go over to my regular nutter hunting place.. Had my camo's and hat on.. Went out to the garage and decided to take my S1K .177 L/W this time..Opened back door to garage and loaded up a preditor.. It was on the money so I grabbed a dozen preditors and put them in my shirt pocket.. Off I went.. Well I got over there and parked and got out of my car and the wind blew my hat right off my head.. I never have gone nutter hunting when the wind was blowing like it was today.. So I grabbed up my S1K and circled around by the small lake or is it a big pond..:) Anyway there are a line of pines and other trees there. Found a place behind the bushes and sat down.. Waited and watched for about an hour or so.. I only saw one nutter and he was way to far to shoot and the water was between him and me...:(

Maybe you guys can tell me something.. Do nutters normally come out when it is real windy? Anyway,  I am going back this afternoon if the wind dies down... Maybe the wind knocked some nuts outa da trees and those nutters will be crawlin all over eatin nuts.. hehe

To bad about the wind Gene, I also hate it when that happens.   As for the tree rats staying indoors,,,,, short of extreme winds the squirrels will come out to feed, however I have seen them spend more time on the ground during that kind of weather.  I guess their internal sensors let them know when it's advisable to stay out of the trees.

I would imagine that the winds should die down late in the afternoon, that's usually the pattern (at least  in my neck of the woods).  Usually a couple of hours before sunset the winds around here usually start to die down and by sunset it's usually pretty calm.

Hope you get in some shooting this afternoon, don't forget the pics.  :)

Hay Gene,

The Tree rats up here stay on the ground also when it gets windy, they go to the trees for safety from usground predators.

If you know this area well, just plant yourself in a section where you have seen congregate. If you accidentally spill some cracked corn, you can check that spot out also. hehehe

Good Luck out there Gene, watch out for them snakesssssss. ;)
