The Power of Air Guns
« on: May 31, 2007, 01:48:28 PM »
I ran around all morning doing errands, then spend the entire afternoon mowing, weed wacking and edging the lawns.  Then I had to load all the grass clippings and debris into my small trailer and haul all the stuff over to the town compost facility.  By the time I finally finished it was time to help the wife make dinner,,,,so,,,,, out onto the deck I went and stood there for an hour bar-b-q'ing dinner for the family.  After cleaning up the grill and putting everything away I was finally done for the day.

After such a hectic day I really needed to relax and unwind so down into the basement I went.  I grabbed a large spinning target I had just purchased at WallyWorld and set it up in front of my air gun target range.  For the next hour and 1/2 I sat at my shooting bench blasting the heck out of my new target, switching back and forth between half a dozen different air rifles.

As I concentrated on my shooting I felt all the stress of the day melting away and disappearing. Everything else in the world disappeared,,,, the only thing that was important at the moment was that bright red target 25 yards away.

At the end of the shooting session I wiped off all the rifles with my silicone cloth, put them gingerly back into their spots in the gun safe and inspected the damage my pellets had done to the target before putting it back on the shelf to await it's next shooting session.

That hour and a 1/2 did wonders for me !!  I felt relaxed, calmed and very satisfied.  The power of air guns for me is not always their FPE at the target, sometimes it's just the way that they can make me forget about all the hussle and bustle of life and become focused on a wonderfully simple task  ---  hitting that little red target with that little lead pellet.

LOL Jeff, we seem to do the same things at the same time allot.. I did all the yard work this morning as well. I have one acre of yard and weeds.. lol ... It took me most of the morning to finish and I got in some targets after that and wiped down a couple of my guns in the rack and put them in cases for storage..:) But for sure the air rifles have allot more power than just the FPE.. :) I was so relaxed I wanted to lay down for a nap after that.. hehe

Great Post Buddy

Hi Guys, WHAT NO BEER !

The only time I drink beer is on a HOT summer day, after yard work. But for me, that's when it really hits the spot !!!!

Well you two, I have the yard duty tomorrow, I put it off today due to theweather here, it was just too darn nice !

But when you play, you pay, and tomorrow I pay....

I can relate to all the comments here!  I seldom drnik beer except on real hot days after yard work.  It takes me an entire summer to kill a 12 pack.

I've been busting my keester to get ahead of the rain and growth here in Colorado.
I do alot of shooting while the kids are in school or in the evening from the driveway into the garage.  I use various boxes lined with magazines, catalogs, newspapers, or even old phone books as back stops.  My B26 punched thru a pizza box and into the garage wall (oops!)  Yep, it is quite relaxing just focusing on little groups or what various pellets do in different mediums etc.

I started airgun shooting after having a major stress attack due to work. My doctor told me to find an extra mural activity and it just happened to be the week before my birthday. My wife bought me my CFX and almost a year later and 15 guns and scope packages, well over 15000 pellets and heaps of dead animals here I am. Now the wife has a stress attack whenever I mention going to the gun store which is basically every saturday. HEHEHE

hunkered down in the the predawn wood's, no bird's chirping yet just the sound of a slight wind rustling the leave's in the tree's. In my hand's the affair of the heart, ready at my command. Waiting for that one moment when everything comes together. No worries, no stress just you and Mother Nature, is there anything else?. Ed
