Too damn windy to shoot!
« on: June 17, 2007, 11:50:16 AM »
So I figured I'd at least run a couple of chrony strings on the new .22 CFX.  Since I got it Friday, I've probably only been able to get maybe 100 shots through it, if it hasn't been blowing, it was raining.  I'm using Superdomes for break-in, they shot very well from the last .22 I had, and I've always had good luck with them in my .177's.  Don't know if they will be the best in this gun, but so far, they look promising.

Okay, I only shot 2 10 shot strings, both with Superdomes.  First string averaged 682 fps, the second went up to 686.  Spread and deviation both dropped on the second string, I expect it to improve quite a bit once it's broken in.  At the current velocity with this pellet, it's doing just over 15 fpe.  I expect it to settle down somewhere between 17 and 18 fpe, that's only 750 fps.

Since I just ordered my GRT trigger, I spent yesterday morning tearing down the trigger assy. and polishing everything.  The 5 shots I managed yesterday had me thinking I might have wasted my time, but with the additional 20 shots today, I'm already noticing a difference.  A gold trigger can only make it better.  I plan on running through this tin of Superdomes, then I'll open her up and give her a good clean, de-burr, and lube.  After that, I'll try some of the other pellets I have.  So has anyone else done any testing, and if so, what were your results?

Dave

My .22 Gamo liked the Benjamin round nosed Diablos....as did my QB78's and my Crosman 22XX's....really can't think of a .22 I've owned that didn't like the Benjamin Diablos....plus they are cheap off the shelf at Academy Sports...no shipping costs!  Gamo Hunters in .22 shoot "ok", but not as good as the Benny's.  HTH!

Hey Daved,
I did chrony my CFX22.  Here are my results so far. 687 with CPHP, 736 with Gamo Match WC, and 770 with RWS Hobby pellets.  I like you am waiting for my CDT trigger to arrive then I'm gutting the rifle.
Seems like a lot of potential as soon as I get it retriggered, smoothed out and detwanged.
22 CFX, 22 Quest, 177 Phantom, 177 QB18, 177 Gamo 440 Hunter, 177 Gamo Delta, 177 B3, 22 TF97, 1377 Crosman, P3 Beeman pistol, 140 Crosman pumper early 60\'s, 317 Benjamin pumper from the early 60\'s

You forget I live 5 miles past the middle of nowhere :-)!  Plus I've never heard of Academy Sports, must be one of those outfits that never found the Pacific Northwest.  I seem to recall that the Benjamins are rebadged somethings, just don't remember what the "something" is.  That's okay, I like the Superdomes, and they have the added bonus of being one of the only .22 pellets I've found that come in 500 count tins.  Most seem to be 200 or 250.  Took a few minutes this morning, before the wind kicked up again, even at this point, keeping everything inside an inch at 30 yards isn't that tough.  Later.

Ahhh Ed good to hear from you finally.. Was starting to worry about ya there. Those re some pretty decent numbers, like to see how it is after 600-800 shots.
