Bore Sighting With So-called Muzzle Brake?

May the CFX model(s) be bore-sighted with instruments like the laserlyte without the so-called ridiculous "muzzle-brake" in place?

I don't believe a bore adapter may be used with this model that uses the fake muzzle-brake opening as a centering stop is any where near accurate?

I took my rifles to a sporting goods store, and they informed me that they used a huge bore adapter to fit into the fake muzzle brake for centering,
and it is pathetically inaccurate, as returned.

I don't have a "range" I may sight-in the scopes close, and the store was the only choice I had.  Quite disappointed with the results.

Is this typical of retailers that handle airguns/firearms? Pathetic, but worth every penny I paid, which was nothing.

Gee, I really hate to be negative, but with most sporting goods retailers, even some fairly knowledgeable gun stores, you won't find much in the way of genuine airgun expertise. Unfortunately, it is just symptomatic of the American shooting scene. Americans, as a rule, don't want a "BB gun," they want a big, honkin' magnum rifle or handgun. Airgunning is becomming more and more popular, more so in some regions of our country than others, but is still small potatos to the big retailers.

Yes but use cation. I bought one of the lazerlights from the Mart of Wal and it got me close but would get different results everytime so I took it back. It could have possibly been bent. I've used a standard bore sighter but they are more set up for 100yards. Good luck hoped this helped.

Not negative, at all, Peak! I came to the same conclusion! Especially, since I stated I wanted them sighted-in at 30 yards, and they sighted them in at 100 yards...clueless, and ignorant.  Didn't want to say anything, as I paid no funds for them to "help".
Just disappointed, that a sporting goods store would have ignorant (not stupid, big difference), staff.  It's true anywhere, though; small wages glean small experience.

I will have to get a key to our local "shooting range" from the sheriff's department, and sight them in properly, if and when the keys are available.  It is a pathetic state of affairs, in a gated community (if not expected, actually) when police are called if anyone is seen is their own yard with any thing that resembles a firearm, pellet guns included.  After 9-11, the paranoia and ignorance is running rampant.

I envy users of this forum who reside in a rural setting.

Yep! The store associate said the elevation was spot-on, but the azimuthal needed some "fine-tuning".  (sigh)  

If you want something done right, do it yourself!

Something else to bear in mind....Even if a rifle is properly boresighted, this is just a good starting point, gets you in the ballpark, doesn't mean you will be spot on. This is true with any rifle, powderburner or airgun. Too many variables to get it perfect. You'll still end up having to get the rifle sighted in yourself for the ammunition you are using, and your individual sighting plane and hold techniques.

Have to agree with Stephanie on all points. If you can even find a boresighter for a springer you would be lucky. I got one of those BSA boresighters free with a BSA scope special offer...:) But what they don't tell you is that boresiter will not work on an air gun. I gave it to CDT and he called BSA and they admitted up to it.. hehe.  In our Library is a link for a good way to set up your scope and also there have been a few great threads from members on how to best site in a scope. After all even if did find a boresiter and found a problem, you would most likely have to adjust for it with the scope in the end anyway...:)

Thanks for all replies.  I've decided to sight-it-in by setting-up deep into the garage, and putting the target(s) at the end of the driveway.  There is nothing off the end of the driveway to worry about, and it should get me around 70 ft.  I'll just have to fashion a back stop made out of a trash can, or something that won't draw too much attention...
