Gamo Whisper Scope rail?
« on: August 18, 2007, 08:51:07 AM »
Let me just say that the directions in the new air rifles I bought this year leave a lot to be desired. If manufactures would stop the Rosetta stone translations maybe some real info might be printed. Anyway does the raised rail mounted on the gun which the 1 piece scope mount sits on have a stop. I found the stop on the scope mount by accident after I could not stop the scope creep but before I ruined the metric cap head screws. When the stop is used the mount goes forward by 1 inch compared to when I had it installed before the creep. Right now I would like to move the entire scope closer by about 1/2 to 3/4. I thought I could just move the rail back in the dovetail but no luck. I am trying to avoid taking everything apart again. I don't think the scope can be moved back enough in the rings. Next time I will know.

Yes, the newer Gamo scope mounting rail does have a stop which goes into a corresponding hole in the receiver.

May I ask what scope are you trying to use?  I also noticed that the set screw on the new Whispers scope mount dd not go deep enough in the hole on the riser. I changed the set screw that would go deeper. When I first mounted the scope I screwed the set screw in to where the hole on the riser was but later found out that it did not go deep enough. The scope mount did creep back and scuffed the top of the riser. I changed the mount also to an Accushot medium mount as well as the scope. The scope that came with the Whisper did not hold POI well. I ended up putting a Bushnell on it. You have to remember that these Gamo's out of the box with the S1K power plant can be quite harsh on the recoil at first. So make sure you locktight your mounting screws on the mount.

Good Luck

Scope is the BSA 3x9 x 40 that came with the gun. After I also scuffed the top of the rail with the set screw I lowered the stop set screw which moved the entire assembly forward because of where the stop hole was located on the rail. I was going to change to a set of simmons two piece before I found the screw for the scope stop so I did not try to change it. I have about at most 1/2 inch to move the scope back on the rings. As I mentioned I thought I might be able to move the entire rail back but that does not appear to be the case. Right now I have to move my head forward to be able to get the full view in the scope. I thought I might do better if I could just lean my head onto the cheek piece. Sort of glad to see I was not the only one to scuff the rail.

I could be looking at it wrong, but I also want to move my scope back about 1/2". I haven't takin it off yet, but the pin in the receiver appears to be about 1/2" back, from the one in the rail. I'm going to take the rail off and mount straight to the receiver. That should move it back and drop it enough for me. Mine is a CFX, so yours could be different, but it may be worth a look.Hey Gene, want to sell that scope?

I had the same distance problem.  I was using the one-piece mount with 4 screws...I changed to the shorter one with 3 screws, moved the scope back about 3/4" and now it's perfect.
