Are Gamo refurbs "marked"?
« on: July 28, 2006, 03:24:09 PM »
My 440 refurb has what I thought was a cosmetic flaw - a little divit in the breach block just in front of the sight. It doesn't look like it's punched, but rather as if someone just started drilling a hole.

At first I thought that maybe the factory started drilling this one for the lower grade sight (which requires a hole further up) by mistake, but the divit is off-center. Then I noticed that wifey's refurb Shadow has a similar divit in roughly the same spot.

I know that Crosman punches an "R" on the breach block next to the serial number... is this Gamo's way of tagging the gun as "not new"?

It's from the factory, both of my Shadow Hunters have the same mark, they just spot it with a small drill.

I have seen it after the serial number also.

Crosman's "R" stamped into the breach block at least looks dignified - not like a some ding-dong machinist goofed up.

Oh well... I'll have to blue it (or something) just so it doesn't stick out...
