What spring for Gamos?
« on: November 01, 2007, 06:00:48 PM »
I'm just about to order some stuff from Maccari and I thought to add a spare spring for my Hunter sport to the order. What's the right spring to get when using stock guide/tophat + shrink tube for tuning?

Cheers, Riku

Thank you Charlie for your constructive answer. I got the E-1500 after doing some search on the net. Having no lathe and no gun tuners around I'll have to get by with less precision in these things.

The E-1500 is a good replacement spring for the Gamo and a drop in. It is a bit softer shooting more docile spring and should work well for you. I would suggest that you not use the heat shrink on it though and use only the heavy tar on the outer coils and a thin coat of moly on the guide and spring ends.

That's the plan if tolerances are close enough, i.e. no shrink tube is needed / fits there. The interesting thing will be trying that new Merlin spring for my FWB300, should get it past 700 fps thus making it a very useful tool for close to medium range varmint control. So far I've only hunted flies with it   :)
