NZ nationals
« on: November 04, 2007, 09:09:00 AM »
Well I started of like a car with four flat tiers  just couldn't seem to hit my mark and couldn't seem to find the problem until the second to last gate where I noticed my scope was moving up and down at the rear giving about 2mm movement now we all know what a world of hurt that can cause so I called the range officer over and got permission to leave the firing line to make some running repairs  :emoticon:
It was my raised scope rail normally would have three screws holding it on mine was missing the third at the rear allowing the movement this caused me to only hit three targets out of the 25 on the first half  boy was I pulling my hair out by then.
Now I faced the second run we do the course twice to make up 50 targets and I knew I didn't have enough targets to get a placing for that comp but I knew I could hit enough to make it back into second place overall for the springers even though my scope was fixed I still didn't know where it was really going and it was really hard going as I had to use each target as a point for sighting in and each miss meant one more less point but maybe one or two more mm in the right direction.
PHEW I made enough points up to take second overall placing for the series would have been nice to get two medals but I got the one I had been fighting for all year over the series so me and my custom CFX hold the second to top title for the spring piston shooting in NZ.  :emoticon:
The next day I decided to re sight my rifle and once I was shooting 15mm groups at 20 meters I just couldn't help but laugh.

Rule 1 Always and I mean always check every nut, bolt and bloody screw on a gun before you compete more so on a springer and with running this event and having plenty on my mind I forgot this rule how ever this is know excuse instead it's just one of those things that can happen and I hope it will remind me for next time cause that was my worst shooting experience ever but an important learning curve.
On a brighter note my medal collection is looking a little better now lol  GOLD next year.

Hello Sean,

CONGRATULATIONS ! Second Place is quite an achievement. And I don't think you will forget to check "ALL" of your equipment before a big match again.

But look on the bright side, there is always next year !

In my years in competition, I have seen, and have had many unbelievable misfortunes occur at the most inconvient moments. I had my tournament bows limb collapse at full draw, and put a nasty slice down my nose, with out a spare set of limbs, that was at the Quarter Nationals. As they say, "POOP HAPPENS" I was in contention for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, that ended that dream, forever !

So look forward to next year, and all the Gold and Glory that is still in your grasp !

The Best of Luck !!!!!

Thanks Sean but regardless of how good the parts are, if you don't have a good person behind the trigger, the parts don't matter.   :)

By the way, Alan is no longer handling/distributing the GRT-III trigger in New Zealand. He wanted to pass the distributorship on to Ken Rountree. Don't know if you know him or not but he will now be the new distributor for New Zealand. Here is his website.
