Proper basic springer maintenance (info request)
« on: August 04, 2006, 09:04:24 AM »
Being new to this, I want to make sure I keep my 52 (and future rifles) in good working order.

I understand there are a lot of very technical things one can do, but I am more thinking of just basic stuff that every air rifle owener should know how to do.

If you could throw some tips my way I would much appreciate it.

I tend to skim those online guides and while useful, I like to ask real people
because in my experience there are many "wrinkles" that people find that these online guides tend to miss.

I'll study it and make it a part of my routine.

hand experience... :)

I will tell you what I do.. I have 8 springers now.. I tend to pic one up at random and shoot for an hour or two with it. Then put it up and next time I will grab another. So on and So on..

I have learned to clean the bore about every 2 to 3 hundred pellets. I use a rod and patches. Also will use Goo Gone on the patches.. It is a great cleaner and will not hurt anything. Usually run about 10 patches through the barrel with the Goo Gone on number 5. 6,7 patches. I check the stock and scope mount screws  for tightness before I shoot the gun. I wipe down the gun and start havin fun...:) When I am done, I take a clean cloth and spray it with Rim Oil, (not to much) and wipe down the barrel and stock all over to clean off the sweat and oils from my hands..

General maintenance is like good hygiene..:)
