Cold Indiana Day
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:42:15 AM »
Cold and blustery today, looked outside at my favorite walnut tree, about 30 yds out,and spy a squirrell, well out comes thumper crosshairs on boom,a dead miss,he musta thought it was funny to as he sat up on his haunches and stared me down. Then started barking at me in "his" tree,to late predator gone, looks about an inch low have to check ma zero, anyway I`m pretty sure if he wasn`t already dead the 40 foot drop did him in.All in all a good day...

I would not place any bets on that 40 foot fall killing a squirrel.

Shot one out of the top of an full grown Oak tree, 50+ ft up.  On its way down the rat bounces off one branch, hits another branch which was dead and breaks under the pressure.  Now squirrel and branch are falling another 20 feet to the ground without any more interuptions.
Once the squirrel found the ground, gets up and runs back up the tree it just fell out of.

Just keep in mind it still has a pellet round in his body, somewhere.

Squirrels are tougher than you think.

I've seen a few tree rats take a long dive to the ground, hit with a thump and then get up, shake it off and head right back up the tree.   They certainly are tough little buggers.
