Starling Hunt - Day 2
« on: August 10, 2006, 09:06:19 AM »
After having such good shooting yesterday at the local duck farm I went back again this morning for round #2.  Used the Black Shadow .22 again, love that gun, and arrived to find as many birds today as yesterday.  Only difference was it was very windy and the birds were acting very nervous and spooky for some reason, perhaps the wind?  Anyway, I set up in the same spot I was in yesterday but for some reason the birds would come into the feeders and then just before landing would flare out again and take off.  I know they weren't spotting me, I was to well concealed, so I'm not quite sure why they were acting like that. I did see a pair of hawks working the air space above the farm so perhaps that was the problem. My  first 3 shots resulted in 3 dead starlings but from then on it got tougher.  Wind picked up and the birds stopped coming in to the feeders and instead were landing in huge flocks in the marshy areas in the pens around the run off water that runs through all the pens.  I stayed in my blind for another hour, whacked 2 more birds, then called it a day. A meager harvest but took a couple of pics anyway.  I'll give it a try again tomorrow.

I'd like to think those birds are actually afraid of my shooting skills but I know the sad truth,,, and so do they!!
