CROWN ME KING 700!
« on: February 16, 2008, 06:03:06 PM »
Yes went to my rental property to check on the house (its empty right now) with my trusty Gamo Big Cat so I shoot and I shoot and I shoot and I take count and yes my next shot is the big 700 so I look for the rat that is going to be the lucky number and out of a trash can he comes just peaking his head out while he is eating on  something that he has dug out of the bags I look threw the scope and I can see that he doesn't know "WHO THE HELL HE IS DEALING WITH" and I ready my shot and I realize I'm going to knock his head off with my Gamo Rocket ammo and I'm not going to even see the hit. POW all I see is him on the ground twitching, just at that moment I was glad that I just ordered my Talon SS because I always hear how people actually follow the strike threw their scope and I can't wait til I can do that.

I think this is just too much.  I remember back as a kid living in a rural area, there was an old road that was shaped like a horseshoe wrapping around a deep hollow.  This road was back in "no man's land" which is out past the sticks.  Before people were as conscious about nature, this was the place everybody carried their trash.  Seeing how it was maybe a 10 or 15 minute walk from my house, me and my trusty Daisy 880 made a many of trips to this quiet place.  Despite the gun's lack of power I found a well placed shot would liven up things as these monster-sized rats could squeal louder and higher than anything I had ever heard.  Boy were those the days.  By time I was 16 or so the County came and cleaned the hollow out and blocked the old road off.  25 years later I find myself working for the County managaing the largest wast water facility in the state.  While working night shift at the waste water facility I encountered these monster rats once again.  Although I've never taken the time to pop a shot at them.

Where my property is (BALTIMORE, MD.) there are literally thousands of these rats and I mean their HUGE, they run up and down the streets and alleys all night I have many friends that have them in their homes. I started shooting rats almost two months ago when I got my Gamo Big Cat I didn't know it would be this addictive but it is, I make sure that I kill all of them (700 lol) humanely the Big Cat packs a awesome punch.

I lived serveral years in the citrus belt of So. California and we had gophers...:) Lots of gophers... When my cousin was not using me as target practice we would sit in the orchards and watch for the gophers and pop em with his daisey bb gun but they did not kill them.. I could always see the bb in flight. It was fun to watch them scurry back in there holes..:)

I agree, the Big Cat can surely dipatch a rat.  When the rats come out to play is definitley a good time for the Big Cat to prowl.  I bought the neighbor's boy a Big Cat at the end of Jan.  I got the honor of busting it open today to remove a BB that he managed to drop down in the spring action.  The BB was keeping the spring from locking back because it could not compress completely.

Yes! I went down today hoping to get to shoot a couple of rats  with my Talon SS this is her first time out and its cold outside so I figured the rats would be chilling in the house watching T.V. or something(lol) but no they were out like normal so I set up my first shot with the Crosman Premiere and WOW I actually saw what looked like the back of his head exploding. So now I'm amped I load a Gamo Rocket and take my next shot and it is unbelievable the impact that this pellet gives to the rat instant kill no twitch or anything this it to fun and I actually see the Impact that changes the whole experience and I tell you I never see any post on the Gamo Rocket but she is a nice pellet. I wack away at these suckers til I'm just too cold and I stop at 734 I'm telling you all I need now is a decent priced but good Night Vision Scope and I am ready for the long hall.......

Oh yeah so I'm not going to brag but.........."I KICKED SOME RAT ASS TONITE" yeah nothing special went to the gun store this morning and they now sell the talon ss for $835 with the bipod, Condor $935 with bipod I told them that their prices were way off mark they said they were selling like hotcakes...... (DOUBT IT!) but they had some Crosman Fireball looks just like the Gamo Rocket so I said what the hell grabbed a tin and went to the spot to try them out. First thing I noticed is that they are way better looking than the Rocket better molding no molding lines on the Fireball...... well on to the shooting there is a trashcan four houses down and there is always rats in and out of it atleast 9-10 of them so as usual I aim at the trash can and like clock work he pops his head up chewing on something and I let one go first thing I notice is I can see where it looked like part of his head pops he falls in the can and like three rats come out running so I look back at the trash can an I see splatter on the back of the can. Oh Yeah I like these pellets Very Happy I get hungry so I stop at 751..... thinking of changing my name to something like "badassratkillinmofofromroundthewaywiththatalonss" what you think lol....

I don't know if this is a good or bad thing....so much rats in the city.  Lots of opportunity to pop them :o)  if you're allowed to shoot in city limits....but rats carry disease.  I think your city needs more stray cats.  :o)

I feel fortunate not to have a rat problem. But Mike, dang if that doesn't sound like fun. What part of the country are you in?

Ron

p.s. How are you keeping track of all the kills? Are you notching your stock?  LOL!

I'm in Baltimore, MD which is on the east coast about 3 hours south of New York city we are a port city right on the water and I believe that has a lot to do with the reason these rats are here and can thrive as they do. Not to mention the city's alley system is perfect food source for rats , there is a neighbor three houses up who's trashcan is always overun with rats I always start my hunt right there just point and wait for the suckers to pop up.

Yeah I know what you mean Mike....about the cats being scared of them rats.  I once saw (Over 20 years ago) a "street" tomcat afraid to approach a HUGH sewer rat.  This sucker crawled out of a broken sewer pipe and was just moseying around....when they spotted each other, the rat was trying to waddle his way back to the pipe.  The cat was following...but you can tell he was afraid because normally those alley cats would've pounced and made a meal outta that rat.  The big rat was scared too....Natural instincts I guess...and he was walking on weak knees.  :o)
