I want to update my purchase experience of the Leaper scope with IAG. I received a very prompt response from IAG, although it appeared to be directed more at my original post here than the email I sent to their sales group. The tone of the PM could best be described as slightly “venomousâ€, but one point was made which I believe merits further discussion.
IAG correctly pointed out they have little control over shipping costs. Shipping costs are a function of primarily four variables:
1) Vendor location,
2) Customer location,
3) Shipping company, and
4) Urgency of delivery.
IAG felt I cast them in a bad light by comparing their shipping costs for my purchase with that of Cheaper than Dirt (CTD). Looking back at my original post, I could have set up my comments better. I blame that on the late hour; I probably should have been in my bed sleeping instead of pecking on the keyboard at that time of night. I was simply trying to point out that shipping costs, particularly on small to medium orders, can play an important factor in deciding where to make your purchases. In my case, the S&H was approximately $16 on a $70 purchase – about 23%. The savings you realize in the product price may be eaten away by the increased cost of handling and delivery if the vendor and customer are different regions of the country. You may be able to get a better overall deal by buying from dealers in your region (but stay away from your home state if you don’t want to pay sales tax, too). On top of that, ordering from a dealer located closer to you might cut down the shipping time a day or two. In the case I cited, CTD not only offered a lower product price, but also a lower shipping cost because of their proximity to my location.
From the lack of negative responses to my post, I take it not too many people thought I was “…slamming our business efforts or making false comparisons†as IAG claims, but if they were, I apologize – that was not my intent.
By the way, IAG offered to make good on their price guarantee and refund me the difference in the cost of the scope. For personal reasons I’ve decided not to take them up on it.
