RWS 34 - Lube Job

I'm thinking of doing a self lube on my Panther. I would love to get the entire Maccari kit but that'll have to wait for now. Would all I need to do is apply a thin coat of heavy tar over the stock spring and replace it? Would there be any other inexpensive upgrades I can make while I'm at it (seals, etc)?
